Another "should I fight it" thread
So I got a ticket for 80 in a 65 the other day. I know you guys are sick of the same "should I fight it" questions and I'm sorry. But should I fight it for 1 mph? 14 over is $25 cheaper and there is the slim possibility that it might get reduced if I fight it, so I hear. I've got the sob story that my wife had surgery on her leg that morning and I had a Condo Board Meeting I had to attend for work and was just trying to get home to be with my wife...
Any thoughts, or should I suck it up and pay the full fine? I'm checking to see if the last time I took Driver Improvement Course was over a year ago (which may not help with fighting it).

how about you dont pay the fine, dont do defensive driving, but take defered adjudication. Pay court costs or a small fine, stay on driving probation for 3-6 months and get no tickets, then the case is dismissed.
Crack kills... But then again... So do I...

Um.... Nope.... For one mile over, not even worth it... You cannot even contest that you were not at fault. You are going to have to pay something either way. All I can tell you is invest in either one damn good radar jammer or slow the hell down. You're lucky that you didn't go one mile over. If I remember correctly, in most places, anything over 15 mph in excess is concidered a felony.
not sure how FL laws work down there.
i always recommend fighting the ticket regardless because at this point, all you can do is hope to have fines reduced, dismissed, or other turnouts. if your not looking for those insurance rates going up, request traffic school.
last time i went to a walk-in court, people who plead no contest/guilty asked the judge to reduce fines. he then did, but not much for those who had $300 violations (-$40/60?). but there was a man who was overdue for 2g... judge said "tell you want, ill take half off if you will pay considering 1g is a lot of money already".
i always fight and recommend it, got nothing to lose

But if you are innocent, then its worth a shot. But you have to realize the consequences if you lose.

So how do I go about fighting it? The back of the ticket states I can elect a court hearing but the envelope it came in states I must submit a "signed written request to plead not guilty." Do I just need to submit a request for a hearing or do I NEED to plead not guilty? Would I be pleading not guilty to the offense (i.e. I was going 14 over not 15 over) or not guilty like "Yeah I wasn't speeding at all!"? I just don't want to hang myself before it even starts. Do I need to explain anything up front?

I say do what will get your ticket dismissed without going on your record. Like defered or defensive driving.

3 weeks ago a cop driving the opposite way on a 4 lane road (2 lanes, 10 foot median, then 2 more lanes) got me speeding. he hoped the curbed pulled me over and said i was doing 70 mph in a 45, but wrote me a ticket for 51 in a 45. I thought i should have fought it but he told me if i went to court hed make me pay the whole 70 one... sorry to steal your thread bob lol
