okay.. so i parked my car outside my house yesterday and came back today and saw a ticket on my windowshield.
then i found out its a "Plastic cover over front and rear license plate" citation given by one of the parking and traffic ppl (aka meter maids).
what should i do? the ticket is like $50.
should i protest? if so, what should i say?
btw, i had the plastic cover for over 2-3 years and never had a problem, even when cops stopped me.
TIA

I think these are some of the worst tickets....what is the point, I used to have one on my old car because my tags were stolen....total bs fight it!!!!
it is a pretty stupid ticket, but it is illegal to cover up your plates with anything, even if its totally clear. you will probably have a hard time getting out of it, but may be able to change it to a "fix it" type ticket.
Yeah do not sweat it, it could have been worse. Sometimes you gotta pay the piper, but you might as well goto court and tell the about plates being stolen, if its worth your time.

goto the courthouse and tell them you removed it already (have it signed by officer for proof) and offer to pay the fees.
if they refuse, tell them it would be convient and cost effective if they just drop the charges and you pay the fees instead of watsing money on setting court dates, trials, pay for the judge, etc.
i never knew license plate covers were illegal in CA...ppl just want to protect there plates so they dont have to buy a new one from nature wear

I'm guessing that it's probably illegal because there are some dark tinted covers. This would probably prevent people from being caught bythe red light cameras and such.

well, yeah, i just took it to the police station and had a cop signed it. and mail that and $10 back to the traffic ppl.
hopefully they don't send me another bill for the rest of the $40.....
and are there handbooks or websites that u can look at for these kind of rules? if its a place i can pick up the handbook, let me know where, 'cause i don't see them in dmv. and if its a website site, tell me which one since i search around and couldn't find one that has all the rules. the most i found is just about no blue turning bulbs or something like that.

If you want to check the vehicle code for California you can use either of these sites:
CHP Website. Just use the search feature and type in a keyword.
http://www.chp.ca.gov
California DMV Website that lists the entire vehicle code.
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/vc/vc.htm

hrmm thats strange cause i thought the plastic covers are legal. we've had a clear one over our land cruiser for several years, + they were turning yellow and foggy, and never had a ticket. i also saw a tip given out by the news reporters saying that we could use em. never knew that they were illegal.
