Got a ticket....help!!!
Got a ticket....help!!!
Okay, so I was driving out of a parking garage on campus and didn't see the stop sign and drove out. Then outta nowhere UPD comes w/ his lights on and pulls me over. I'm thinking "great, my first ticket for some bullshit like this." So I beg the cop not to write me up, etc. Well, he wrote me up, but not for rolling thru the stop sign, but cuz I had no insurance card on me (I do have insurance). So I have a citation for no insurance, but he said no points will go on my license. My question is, will my insurance rates go up? And will my parents be able to find out about this ticket if I pay it? Thanks for all the help!

I'm confused....why would your parents have the insurance cards for your car, in their possession? You are, by law (or atleast common sense), supposed to keep insurance cards in your car at all times.
Why don't you just call your agent and say you lost your cards, and have him/her mail it to your campus address?
..........or, just take it like a man and tell your folks that you got pulled over. What are they going to do, ground you?

on the ticket, does it say correctable? if so, its a fix-it citation. you wait for the courtesy notice in the mail or appear at the court house as promised on the ticket, show proof of insurance, pay the fees (and fines, if applicable), and done deal. no point on record as its not an traffic violation.
you dont have to get your insurance involved in this matter because it has nothing to do with traffic violation(s). ask your parents for your insurance proof/card, then tell them you got a ticket because of this.
answer to both your questions:
-no insurance rates dont go up
-parents CAN find out if they review your driving record history and if they see the courtesy notice that comes to your house
consider yourself somewhat lucky as the stop sign violation would've been worse.

So, you got cited for 'No Proof of Insurance'
Easily fixable...have your parents fax the current insurance card to the court
AND, no you're insurance wont go up because it wasnt a moving violation
