HIDs - Legal?

Does anyone know what the deal is with aftermarket HID lighting? Are they legal in Canada? I know there was a big issue with blue 'painted' bulbs......

"aftermarket" HIDs are illegal in the united states...

From what I heard, they are legal in Canada

of course if you are blinding the **** out of a cop with a pure purple or pure blue light he should give you a ticket

^ is right.
What the hell are you even thinking driving around with 10000k !?!
If you got HIDs for colour, you just wasted a lot of money.
HID were made for light output, 10000k doesn't have much.

I have a saying for people that buy HID kits higher than 6000k...

I researched this, and whether its 5000K or 10000K, you're still going to get more light output than a good halogen would offer. I've got no problems with my current bulbs (silverstar), but i wouldn't mind having a little more light, with a little blue/purple tint in there too. From all the pictures I've seen, 10000K doesn't look that crazy to me.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Someone here has pure blue hids (check the hid pic post) and there is almost no light hitting the ground. I'd halogen offers alot more visibility.

And here's a pic of how they would look. The street lamp looks brighter on the ground

a lot of people, including myself, got ****ed over for having blue tinted bulbs, many of which shouldn't even have gotten the ticket. Most of those blue tinted bulbs still put out white light, even if they are tinted blue. Law is that they can't give you a ticket based solely on bulb color. They have to check the color of the light that's actually being emitted. But cops don't follow that rule and give out tickets, that one should easily be able to get dismissed.
As for HIDs, they are illegal unless they are stock. What people have been doing about this is getting the projector + HID from any street legal car with HIDs, and have them retrofitted into your stock headlight housing. Legally, cops shouldn't be able to do anything about this, because you are using HIDs from a car that legally comes with them.

last I checked there wasn't anything changed in the HCTA that states HIDs are not permitted.
the lower the temp, the more light output.. and ya, those street lamps are brighter then the car ( which street lamps use HIDs :P )

Not to mention the headlights are 2 feet from the ground and the streetlamp is a good bit higher...and it's still brighter

well, i'll post some pics when i get them installed.

i read that a regular halogen puts out about 1300-1400 lumens while this particular 10000K HID kit puts out 2200 lumens.

if all else fails, i'll sell them on ebay......

i'm not a hater. Its just defets the purpose of HIDs. I must say, it looks nice but then again having green lights might look nice. As long as your happy, go for it. I give you max 2 weeks and your gonna be riding with some those 6000k. Cops think they are pretty too
