1st smog inspection four years?
I just spoke with one of my coworkers yestersay here in San Diego, he said he and his wife just bought a car about a year ago, and you don't have to smog a new car for 4 years here in CA anyone know if that's true?

you people suck, when we buy a new car, the inspection is good for 2 yrs, then every yr after that. And registration is every year at like $70 a sticker and $40 a inspection sticker.

Don't feel bad guys, here in VA we have to have an inspection every year, new car or not, and our registration period is up to us. We can opt for a one or two year registration period. Oh yeah and we have personal property tax. Having to pay tax just because you own something is bull$h1t!!!!

hmm ... http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/stdPAge....d-Jun_2003.htm
it states "Vehicles four model-years old and newer are not required to begin their biennial (every other year) Smog Check inspection cycle until they are five years old. For example, a 2003 model-year vehicle purchased new would not need to have a Smog Check until the year 2007. However, these vehicles must have a Smog Check inspection if they are sold or initially registered in California during that time."
so ... if you bought a 2004 civic, you don't need to smog until 2008

Is that federal or is that only relivent in certain states. Now when you say "smog" do you mean emissions? If that is the case then in Va you have to have it done every year, depending on what county your vehicle is registered in. We don't have to have an emissions test done at all im my county. At least that's what i'm told.
We just received our 2005 BAR (Bureau of Auto Repair) updates.
Effective January 1, 2005, vehicles six or less model-years are exempt from the biennial Smog Check Inspection. (I believe this is if you purchase the vehicle brand new only)
Effective January 1, 2005, vehicle four or less model-years are exempt from Smog Check inspection upon transfer of ownership. (If you sell or car that is no more than 4 years old to another private party you do not have to smog it)
Effective April 1, 2005, 1975 model year vehicles and older are exempt from initial, biennial, and change of ownership smog check inspections.
Then theres all the test only stuff, and blah,blah,blah....
