80 in 65
Hey everyone,
I got pulled over doing 80 on the freeway (speed limit was 65) in upstate New York the other day.
Unfortunately, I don't know how much the fine is because I have to mail in my guilty plea and then the court sets the fine.
Do any of you know how much of a fine I'm looking at?
I pretty much have to plead guilty because I won't be able to take a day off of work and show to court to defend myself. It's not worth it.
thanks.

That's 15 over. You don't have the option of going to driving school? I got a ticket for going 81 in a 55 and I could:
1. Pay the fine and have it go on my record and my insurance goes up
2. Go to court
3. Pay more than in 1 and go to driving school but not have it go on my record.
I chose 3.

alright thanks guys.
I was expecting around $300 since I was 15 over the limit. I could deal with $150 or so. New York is more of a ninny state so it might be more than $150.
I know my registration will go up. the state of New York and the province of quebec have an agreement on traffic violations so I will get demerit points when I renew my license.
I'll write some kind of apologetic letter along with my plea so maybe they'll have mercy on me or something.

Ok, now you mentioned demerit points. In massachusetts, your first speeding ticket is free, after that your insurance goes up a point I believe, minor accident is 3 and major is 5. everyone starts off at step 15 and if your clean for 2 years then it goes down. If it goes up any points, so does your car insurance.
Now with your demerit points, does your car insurance increase for 2 years?
