State troopers must have nothing better to do!
Im on my way to work minding my own business on the highway. i pass a state trooper sitting in the middle of the road trying to catch speeders. well i drive past him, mind u i have my windows up and the air on cuz its 80 out but cloudy. So i keep driving and i see him pull out of the spot and onto the highway. he catches up to me and drives next to me and then pulls in behind me and pulls me over. he tells me he pulled me over cuz my tint was too dark and he couldn't see in. i mean i can see in my car on a sunny day but since it was cloudy, it was a little darker looking. i mean my tint isn't limo or nothing. he ends up giving me a citation and says that i have to appear at court and then he'll take it off if he sees i got my tint changed to a lighter color. i mean there must be nothing better for the cops to do then sit in the road and pull over kids who are not doing anything. i mean its so pathetic. im definitely not supporting them if they call, cuz when they pull people over, its for stupid reasons when they should be out on the road protecting us from more important things. just have to vent. anyways, should i get the tint changed and get it lighter in the front so its dark in the back but lighter in the front or get it all removed and get it all one shade of tint just lighter all around? what do u think? he didn't use a meter. when he pulled me over i put my side windows down and he then proceeded to ask me to pull them up so he can see how dark they are. then he goes, oh i cant see in them. when i kno for a fact there not nearly as dark as most windows on other cars, cuz i can see in them all the time. should i take it to the local police place and have them use a meter and see what the reading comes out as? what would be the best way to handle this? thanx
Yiu could go to the local police, i think the limit is 35%. Either way, it's for his protection, but yes he was just being a hard ***. this was CT, right? I was on my way to foxwoods one day, and i took exit 92? in uncasville, CT. well as soon as i went down the hill a cop was standing there and stoped me, looked in my car and told me to keep going. I think it was a seatbelt check. but in any case you have to take responsibility to what you do with your car, and show them they are wrong.

yeah, i agree about pulling ppl over for stupid **** like that.........i mean, the tint law is for their safety.....but still, it isn't like u were doing anything wrong. I got pulled over for my tint..... mind you, my tint is dark..... and i was about 1 hr from home and since i was out of the area, he just gave me a ticket and said that if i want to be kind to the law, then take it off, it is my choice. So now, when i drive, i keep my hand ready and wherever i think a cop might sit, i put down my windows. It is kinda annoying, but i am not taking off my tint.

i mean , i like my tint, and i would love to just keep it dark cuz its nice to have it that way cuz it gives me privacy and everything. i think i might keep it and just pay the fine or get it removed, but it will look bad i think, but if i keep it, i guess just drive with the windows down. they cant stop you and then tell u to put the windows up to check can they?

yes we can ask you to do that... BUT.... in some states window tint isnt a primary offense which means he cant pull you over just for that reason. to pull an individual over there has to be a primary offense made such as speeding. in most states window tint is a secondary offense. call that police dept. and ask them if window tint is a secondary or primary traffic offense. and if its second ask for the TCA code or law code along with the officers name( if the officer refuses name then dont hassle just get the law code or whats its called in TN is the TCA code; which is primarily the law and what it states). then take that to court with you

also when you have your tint installed if its state legal then the installer/company is supposed to have some sort of identification placed on that tint stating its legal.

Most tint shops won't put their sticker on your car if they do a non-legal install.
In OKlahoma, its 35% on driver/passenger windows, 20% on rear passenger and rear window, no limit on sun/moon roofs, and i think the front strip can be 20% but no more than 4 inches from the top.
Last car I had tint on, I got 20 all the way around and never got ticketed. My first honda had 20 all the wya around too. I just always rolled the windows down when I cops were around.

i dont know, the best thing to do is contact your local state patrol office and ask them..

Well, the cops do a lot of things they are probably not supposed to. The cops around here in Colorado will pull you over for any excuse to see if you are driving drunk. Many police districts use ticketing as a means of income for their city/county. And despite all the claims of not having a quota I know they get reprimanded for not handing out enought tickets.

if its a secondary offense then that doesnt give them enough cause to pull you over... they have to have a primary offense but most say you were speeding to get around that secondary offense crap, since speeding is a primary offense.

SO if the next time I get pulled over by a state trooper, and he pulls me over for my tint, and gives me a ticket, can I get it dismissed if it is a secondary offense?

should I call the DPS or local police dept. on this issue. I still want to know if I get a ticket for this and it is a secondary offense and that is the reason they pulled me over, if I can get out of it. I get pulled over all the time just for my tint by the local police and mostly state troopers. I am not changing it but would like to know these things though.
man what sucks is when i took my truck in to pass inspection it had, had window tint on it and didnt pass on the driver side by .5 % and on the passanger side by 1.5% so very gay i had to take it off and still have yet to put it back on even though the truck looked so much cleaner with the tint up front
