Michigan 'No Fault' insurance / laws
I (ohio driver) was involved in a crash in MICH with a MICH driver, their fault. I understand how the no fault insurace thing works, but now my back is begining to hurt, does any one know if the 'no fault' insurance protects them in anyway of seeking medical compensation?

No fault insurance sucks because of that reason - its supposed to absolve all blame. This is BS since someone was obviously at fault or there would be no accident. Its supposed to prevent the courts from being tied up in litigation or something.
My take is that the insurance institute of the state just gave a kick-back to the state legislators so they can save money. Its all total BS.
You can still sue the drive who hit you, they don't have a waiver of any sorts to litigation....that might be your only recourse, as I don't think your insurance would really do any good.....I'd talk to an attorney.

I actually just read more during lunch (being from Florida, which also has it). I guess they are having real problems with it - people are scamming the system pretty bad. They were even considering dumping it. Colorado dumped it, I saw on google......I actually didn't realize that there were too many states that even HAD it!

ok i am taking this old thread back up because a friend of mine was involved in an accident last night in MI too, OH driver, and his car is pretty much totalled. he was parked when hit by a guy who fell asleep. i however do not know how no fault insurance is gonna work. my friend has only liability coverage in ohio, and the other driver pulled out an expired insurance card when asked for it (we do not yet know if he had insurance and had just let the card expire or not).
anyone know what his options are? how it looks as far as him getting money?
