hmm... didnt post it for some reason... let try this!

Ok, right now my Civic is stock, but I'm looking to upgrade it. I know that stuff like big brakes and wheels are fine, but what I'm curious about is engine mods. I remember hearing somewhere that it was illegal to replace your intake or exhaust? I know nitrous is illegal, but an engine swap is legal, correct (assuming the engine is obtained legally)?

I'd really appreciate some kind of official word on what mods are legal and which aren't (preferrably from an actual officer, like Injen or somebody) as I'm going to try to keep my car legal/low profile (but still upgrade it) beause I don't want to be hassled by cops.

It depends, it is regional. You need to check with your specific location if they have smog laws. It must be approved in order to be put on your car. Engine swaps are legal, but the engine cannot be older than the car you are putting it in. Example, if I have a 2002 honda civic I cannot swap a 2000 Honda civic SI engine into my car. For the most part, if your car doesnt make strange smells or isent really loud, or doesnt have obvious violations, like blue and red lights flashing like a police signal. You shouldnt have a problem. Nitrous cannot be used legally at all on the street, and if you have a burst of speed and an officer sees it, they can check your car for nitrous.

You dont really need to worry about any of your mods being legal or not, but if your state has emissions inspections, like texas, then some of the mods might not pass inspections. Cops really wont hassle you about your car, but then again, you live in Maryland and I dont know how the cops are there. you just dont want to attract cops to your car with any crazy things.
