Question Headers/Dowpipe/Midpipe install party

yo playas...im gettin my act together and gonna order a midpipe and random tech downpipe. I want to install them myself, because i dont believe it will be too hard. Harderst part will be extending the o2 sensor wires, maybe installing a new sway bar, and getting the header bolt off closest to the alternator!! Anyways im just wondering who is experienced in doing this. I havent done anything to my exhaust myself, so im just looking for some help. I may be able too get access to the hoist at goldwing, but i have to ask...im not sure. So would this be possible to do without a hoist, and without someone getting crushed under the car? I also looked at my stock exhaust/sway bar placement, and my sway bar has a kink in it to clear the stock down/mid pipe. I dont know if i need an ex swaybar, but i can get one from a junkyard or someone on here. So any help would be great. Lemme know if i can do this, or if i need someone else to do it. Thanks guys!

with a hoist, a job like this would be a breeze, Juliane, Jim, pete, jeremy and maybe Mike would probebly be able to help. This stuff is mainly bolt on, take of stock bolt new items on.

So r u gonna get a new exhaust too ?

and although i am probebly useless, i will still be there to do whatever i can, maybe i can supervise

^cool man thanks! Yah basically after this my whole exhaust will be aftermarket....the downpipe has the cat on it, and the midpipe goes from the cat all the way back to my over axle muffler pipe. IM not gonna change my over axle pipe if that what u were thinking for you're ride!! haha...unless u wanna trade for ur front swaybar! haha.

hehe no man i already have that fat *** muffler, i just need to install it.

So basically, Header, Down Pipe, High flow cat, b pipe, and a pipe from the ca to the axcel.

Hmmmm, sound good, by the way we might need a welder too.

no welding needed! All the pipes should bolt up to each other. With the right gaskets and stuff. So has anyone done this themselves yet?

i'm doing it not this weekend, but next. My random tech cat is in the mail. I have to get my exhaust welded, you might too if you have an LX cat back. Should be pretty cheap at Midas or someplace. We can chat about it some more later, but its really easy. An hour or two max. I changed my front swaybar to an SI one (mike's) and you might have to as well. I did just to be safe because I havent seen the cat yet. Thats a pretty easy job too, if you can find one.

Do you already have a header??

The next thing I want to do is get some header wrap. Know anywhere that I can buy some?

geeze guys, you are going all out!

well I guess I did to seeing as I've spent like 2G's on tires, springs and rubber, and an alarm.. actually closer to 3G's. I'll get an exhaust next spring. For now my stock is fine with me!

^^yah supposedly when the heat is not released from the header it gets too intense and the header can crack. Thats why no header companies warranty a header that was wrapped.

Hey Bigballer, make sure that when you extend your wires for the 02 sensors, that you use wires that are thicker than the OEM wires. I used thin ones my first time and they fried my 02 sensors. BOth of them!!! I finally got all this shiznit fixed 2 weeks ago. Just go to Crappy tire and get about 10 feet of copper wire that has 4 wires so you can splice into your OEM wires. I don't wanna see you go through the same problems that i did. But in the end it is well worth it. My car went from running 17.3 to 16.2, but my 16.2 was with my sensors already fried, so i know i can hit a 15.8 easy. Good luck!

okay went into midas to get a quote, they put the car up and i was talking to the guy who would be doing the work. He said prolly around 200-300 bucks to do a custom downpipe. The thing is they do crush bending, which lowers the diameter of the pipes a little bit. It also restricts flow a lil. The thing is if i do this i wont need an ex swaybar, and that saves me 30 bucks. Also if it doesnt take as long to do the work then i will have saved some money over ordering the random tech pipe. Any suggestions?

i was at midas today as well. I have to get my LX catback cut and a flange welded on to mate up to my Random tech cat. Its going to be pretty cheap. The midas on baseline near clyde is pretty cool. I think for the price of getting it crush bent vs. the random tech I am glad I went with the RT cat. It is a really nice piece of work. Nice welds, nice bends, and not too expensive.

As for the O2 sensors, I am just going to cut and solder on some longer wires. I'll protect the wires with heatshrink and zip tie them to something and I don't think I'll have any problems. Let me know if you do decide to check out the price at a dealership. I would be interested if its only a few bucks.

^^hmmm yah im thinking of gettin the RT. Did you have to pay duty or brokerage fees or anything like that? I cant stand that ****! It will also save me some on the ex swaybar i wont need to get. As for the midpipe im gettin an ex aftermarket one so it would bolt up to the random tech one. LEt me know about shipping and all those details...like in the end how much was it to get the cat...pm me and let me know! Thanks
