smoked license plate covers can be bought at the bmv.....so they are legal. i however have dirty smoked plate covers and a state trooper told me i needed new ones. in ohio cops wont bother u if u have normal color lights . e.g....white/yellow. but if you have red snake eyes/washer nozzles or blue. or red or blue anything....yeah thats illegal.
My friend is a cop and he said the plate covers are illegal, because he recommended I take mine off, becuase I can get pulled over for them and I have the dark smoked one. Just because they sell it doesn't mean it is legal, look at window tint.
