Help. Swap questions/ general help
My friend just gave me a 04 civic EX sedan five speed. It's a lot more f***** than I thought. It needs a new engine I need transmission bearings, entirely new brake lines, strutts, all around battery. The last owner ran it completely dry multiple times warped, the head two hundred fifty k. I'm broke and can't afford a new one. Would it be worth trying to figure out how to put a new motor in?It instructs, if so, what motor can I put in it? An upgrade, would it obviously be cool? Could I fit a k twenty in that? Will it line up with the five speed. Any tips or tricks would be grateful.Thank you. It also needs all new brake lines.

Re: Help
A K20 will fit, but it's not a simple drop in and go thing. Definitely won't mate up to the D17's tranny. You'll need a bunch of stuff on top of the k20 engine and tranny to do the swap. You'll also have to do a bit of modding to get it to fit (IIRC, maybe some hood skeleton trimming and headlight upper support trimming for the PS pump?), not to mention exhaust modification because the k20 has the exhaust ports on the rear of the engine and the D17 has the exhaust ports on the front. If you're looking to make it a project car that you can acquire parts as you get the funds, then go for it, but it's not a simple swap. Here's a PDF of xproductionz's (former member that laid out the 7thgen k20 swap) basically DIY guide for a k20 swap. Should give you some insight as to what all needs to happen to make it work. Depending on how cheaply you can get the parts, I think the price range of the swap back in the early 00's was $6-10k
If you're looking to get it up and running, a D17A2 will be your best bet. That's what your car currently has and will be a legit drop in swap.

Re: Help. Swap questions/ general help
No I definitely am not looking to make it a project car, but if I have to take the engine out, I would rather put something in with a little more power, then the one point seven it has. So what would fit up? Is there a newer model with like a Turbo? That would just be a drop in that would also fit up with the transmission five speed? Transmission has a bad bearing. So is there anything else I should do inside of it while i'm in there?
Re: Help. Swap questions/ general help
No. Just put another 1.7 in it. Like you already said, you’re broke. The K swap is the cheapest option and it’s like 4-5 grand to do it properly.
Sounds to me like this car should just be junked.
