Missing Link

My question is do I still need my missing link with my current setup? I have the AEM F/IC piggyback as my tuning device running 8lbs of boost. My car has been torn apart all winter and the AEM unit wasn't installed while the car was running so not sure.

Re: Missing Link

good question...........I didn't need one w/ my emanage since I had a boost sensor installed.........Not sure w/ the AEM but still the same concept.....I believe the AEM should have some sensors of it's own? or possibly even upgrade to an AEM Map sensor for better compatiblity?

Re: Missing Link

Depends on the FIC's ability to read and alter boost signal. You need to be able to read the boost pressure to reference boost tables and you can't do that if you don't have a sensor that reads pressure. That said, there is probably a wiring schematic to wire in a map sensor into the piggyback and have it alter the map signal going into the ecu so it doesn't freak out and go into limp mode when it sees boost.

The stock map can read a little over 10 psi.

Re: Missing Link

The F/IC runs a simulated MAP signal to the ECU so it doesn't flip out and takes the true readings off its onboard 2.5 BAR MAP sensor. You still need the stock MAP plugged in, but all the actual boost readings come from onboard the EMS.

So the short answer is no, you don't need a missing link with the F/IC.

Re: Missing Link

Thanks guys, thats what I was thinking. I already pulled the missing link. I know the AEM unit has a MAP map so I was assuming it would do the missing links job.

Re: Missing Link

Yeah, the built in map is the fooler to the stock ECU. This this day and age of cheap yet semi-useful tuning systems, anyone using a missing link should be beaten.
