D17 misfiring with AEM FIC
D17 misfiring with AEM FIC
Alright guys i really dont want to take the FIC out and use something else. give me opinions on what you think it might be.
The Story: Well they started tuning the car and as soon as it hit 4500 rpm it starts mis firing. They took out the Iridiums(gapped at 045) and they put non iridiums in there(gapped at 030 or 035). They didn't even try re gapping the iridiums. He changed the fuel and timing several different times, still did the same thing. This sucks....I want my car back
Has anyone ever tuned a d17 with the AEM FIC and had this problem

Yeah it sounds exterior related (plugs, octane, tune etc). An EMS is just a dumb box and is only as good as the guy tuning it. You may want to look into these issues and switch tuners.

Iridium electrodes are more fragile than standard copper nuggets, but you can still gap them. You just have to be careful and not jam your Autozone keychain plug gapper in there and go to town. Gotta use finesse.
It's like havin' a fine hand with laydies, it's all in how you use the tool.

im sorry i actually said it wrong let me correct, iridium plugs can be gapped but i wouldnt recommend doing it since you run the risk of breaking the electrode, and if you bought them specifically for your car you shouldnt have to gap them. you run the risk of breaking a very expensive plug.

Turbo'd Honda Civics don't have a specific Iriridum plug. We get one that has the right thread pitch and heat setting and then adjust the gap accordingly to what we need.
