Re: Blow Head Gasket???

Yeah the dealer told me it was probably the head gasket since coolant was shooting up. So I took it to a cheaper shop and they said its burning coolant and oil and its probably the valves. Their recommendation was to take it somewhere to have the head checked out. I still haven't found a shop willing to do it. Especially with the tsi setup nobody wants to be responsible.

Re: Blow Head Gasket???

Update........... Well I had my water pump changed and the car seems to be running fine. But my dad told me the car started to overheat yesterday, but i've been driving it all day today in and out of boost, and it been running perfect. Sooooooo........ If anyone have been having the same problem as me check your water pump before taking your head off. But im still going to change my HG because I want to turn up the boost.

P.S.
How unsafe or safe would 10psi with a t3/t4 57trim .60 .63 on a stock engine be

Re: Blow Head Gasket???

I wouldn't put it on the strip at that psi. I was leary about mine at 9 psi so I backed down to about 8-8.5 psi.

Check and make sure you got all the air out the system after changing out the water pump.

Re: Blow Head Gasket???

Yea i've been running at 8.5 for like 2 months now, and I wanted to get it tuned at like 9.5 or 10....... My goal is 200 and I don't really think 8.5psi can make that on a piggyback.

Yea I check already, but im going to double check... just in case

Yea I know the XFC can make 200, but im not sure if it will make 200 at 8.5psi. ...... So what do you guys this should I bump the psi up to like 9.5-10 or keep it a 8.5? Im going in for my tune in 2 weeks, so I need to figure this out.

Alright, well I am in the process of replacing my HG. I took my intercooler off, and there is a layer of water at the bottom of the intercooler? Does this mean I have a bad intercooler?

Nope
It means that the coolant/oil went thru the exhaust and pooled in the intercooler,
You have a big job cleaning up ahead of you.

I have some spare heads if you need one.
Good luck

Ooooooo. Well I already had my head cleaned when I changed my gasket. Does anything else need to be done?

How could coolant/oil have gotten through my exhaust?

That's what happen when the head gasket goes oil/ coolant get into the combustion chambler and out the exhaust.
You seem to have a severe leak if a pool of coolant is in the intercooler.
Check for a cracks on the head, get a full head overhaul, is not that much and well worth it.
Get ARP studs.
And me personaly will recomend a block guard.

If I was you I'll get the turbo cleaned, all that coolant/ oil shis went right thru the exhaust side of the turbine, clean the 02 sensors as well.

Re: Blow Head Gasket???

Coolant will burn in the combustion chamber and blow off a white smoke. If you have coolant pooled up around the radiatior support area, I'm sure its probably what blew out of the overflow tank when you overheated it.

Re: Blow Head Gasket???

Im still pretty confused as to what coolant/oil has anything to do with water in my intercooler? Coolant/oil and water a really different. Could water have gotten sucked in turbo and pooled in the intercooler?

I don't know, I will check everything out agian. Im pretty sure my head is good because I had it check when I sent it to get cleaned

Also, after I changed my water pump and timing belt, my car has been running extremely rich. The afr's used to be in the high 13-14 range out of boost and now it is in the rich-10 range. Anyone have any idea of what could be wrong?

Re: Blow Head Gasket???

make sure to have the head checked not only for pressure but also for warpage. if you put a warped head back in, it will just blow the gasket again. and if it overheated, it is warped for sure. just make sure before doing everything and having it fail again. maybe your timing is messed up, even by one tooth could change the way it runs. did you get it tuned and with what?

Ouch. Oil+coolant+IC= WTF + really bad.

There is no way that combo of stuff should have gotten into your IC at all. You running an oil and water cooled turbo?

Re: Blow Head Gasket???

Still strange. Are you running a catch can? How is your filter routed?

Or a better question. Are you still having the water issue now that it's been 4 days?

Re: Blow Head Gasket???

Hmm let's see, your intercooler is conected between the turbo/manifold assembly from the compresion side and the intakes throtle body..
Now there is no way that you have coolant coming from the intakes TB so,
More likely the coolant came from the exhaust into your tubo and out the intercooler.
Sounds like a seal on the turbine is busted and letting compresed air and coolant to the intercooler.

Stiil cooland cooming out of the exhaust is another problem

Do you have a P&P head?
P&P heads can also be a problem if it was bored out too much.

Have you tried to remove a bolt from the block by drilling?

Another theory would be that your engines block ran out of coolant and got so hot that cracked the blocks water jacket
Any way it doesn't sound good.
How is it running right now?
Did you change your HG?
Was the old one bad, did you noticed any damage on the old one when you removed it?

Re: Blow Head Gasket???

There isn't any coolant coming out of the exhaust. Coolant or oil really has nothing to do with my problem because there WAS NOT any coolant or oil in my intercooler. There was just a pool of water, not water mix with coolant or water/coolan/oil. Just water, like I could drink it if I wanted to.

I did blow a head gasket, probably due to overheating, but I already changed my gasket and the car is running 100% better. Im not having any overheating problems anymore.

My old head gasket was not that bad, it was just leaking a little

I am running with no filter as of now (I know.... I need to get one). I am guessing water got sucked through my intercooler.

I havn't checked again. I thought maybe someone know what was wrong, but apprantly water in the intercooler is pretty odd lol

P.S. Anyone know a way to route the intake w/o having to do a battery relocation?

Rubber flex pipe from Home Depot and put it right above the tranny in between the fuse box and VTEC solenoid.

Re: Blow Head Gasket???

You should be able to size it correctly for your filter and turbo inlet. Take some measurements of both and just get stuff to make it work. I've seen folks do this without couplers. I know FoSho is running his this way, and there's a picture of it buried somewhere in my install thread, I just can't find it yet.
