Cost of k20 swap...

Hi guys. First of all, sorry if this is a commonly covered subject. I've been out of the scene for a couple of years now. At college without my car = low modding desire. Anyways, what does the conversion to a k20 or k24 cost now? A couple of years ago it was around $7k, but that included the motor and tranny, I believe.

What all is involved with the swap, what all is needed other than the motor, tranny, and wiring harness, and how much would it all cost now? Thanks.

Re: Cost of k20 swap...

Maybe, I should've asked which k20 model you're talking bout. The model that I'll be getting is the K20A-type-r motor which for the complete swap is running for $5600, the K20A2 type s is going for about $4000, K24 around $1600. So a little over $5600 for the motor, tranny, and ecu to my door. plus a little money for internals, mounts, and whatever fab work i'd need.

Re: Cost of k20 swap...

a JDM K20A is $6000 on jdmcarboy.com + the labor if u dont know how to swap an engine so i'd say around $8000. Im also thinking about swapping like a B16A, H22A, K20A. I'm not for sure though.. the H22A has more horsepower and torque but tthe K20A is lighter .. any suggestions?

Re: Cost of k20 swap...

4000 for a K20a2? where u looking? 5400 is the best i've found and another 2000 for mounts, wiring, etc..at least thats what the DIY forum section listed it roughly as. then u have another 1-2000 in labor cost for someone that knows how to do engines, if ur like me and have no idea nor the time to let your car just sit so u can DIY... then u have to tune it, and after that if your looking for Boost, ur turbos another 3500 then tuning and installing it, so yea 10 is about right for just the swap, extras from other cars and labor....

if you compare motors
a h22a produces
200hp@7200RPM
163lb-ft@6500RPM

a k20a produces
220hp@8000RPM
206lb-ft@7000RPM

a k20a2 (type-s) produces
200hp@7000RPM
142lb-ft@6000RPM

in the case of-
a JDM h22 vs a US k20a2 (type-s)
the h22 makes more power

if you go JDM h22 versus JDM k20
the k20 makes 20 more hp and almost 40 more lbs of torque

not to mention that the difference is weight also

a B16 weighs 403 lbs
a h22 weighs 506 lbs
a k20 weighs 401 lbs

I call BS unless you got a major hookup or your talking about the 160hp rated K20A.

apparently you havent been on this board long enough.. i was the 3rd person to ever buy hte hasport mounts that was made for our year cars.. i was the one that wrote the DIY on how to do the k20 swap into the cars.. i work at an automotive shop..

also he asked how much everyone spent.. you gotta remember that i bought the motor back in the beginning of 2002 when the swaps where not as popular and nobody was really doing it yet.. back then the motors were goin for cheap.. that same motor i could sell for 5000 right now if i wanted to.

back then thats how much i spent.. of course now its a bit different.. if you look at my price guide the price i put might not be the same as they are now.. rough estimiate

So did you get rid of your K swap, or did you just not list it on your profile, cause the only swap I see listed is the DX to EX swap. and as far as I know prices start high and then drop not the other way around. Your story would be more believable if you said you got the hookup on the motor or you got it from some kid who didn't know any better

https://www.civicforums.com/forums/7...nduction-swaps

if you go into the electrical section i wrote up how to install a vafc2
https://www.civicforums.com/forums/111-electronics

i also have written a few FAQ's and FYI topics.

I've already seen your DIY's in your sig, I'm talking about your profile where your mods are listed, no mention of a K series swap, just dx to ex swap, but anyways which series K did/do you have

jus got back from the club and kinda tipsy so dont mind if my typgin seems a bit off

i figured since i wrote the DIY and i do mention my car in the DIY then you would think my car has a k20 swap in it...

i went from a k20a to a k20/k24 build...

i have a profile with my mods??

.. haha.. just looked at my profile.. 100% of all those things i listed are no longer on the car.. i went through 3 body style changes.. 4 sets of rims.. and so many bought and sponsored parts swapped in and out.. i literally changed everything out since i last updated that.. those mods listed was stuff i had on the car back in 2004..
