Turbo Setup

Ok so I finally gave in after over 2 years of searching 7thgencivic.com. I sold my soul to dezod for a v3 kit with 2k blue jet hot manifold & upgrade turbo I'm running the Greddy emanage blue with RSX injectors aswell.
Only question I have when getting everything on is about running the car.
Obviously I will not drive the car without a proper tune. However I would like to start the car @ idle. I wanna be able to check for leaks, make sure the turbo is spooling properly, make sure gauges work, car heats up ok & etc.
I have the plug & play harness & boost sensor attachments for the emanage. I will upload a basemap off this site for idle purposes. Technically, the car should start with the piggy back on & a proper base map. I shouldn't have any problems at idle as long as I don't enter boost/ touch the gas, correct?
Also, what weight oil did everyone switch to, if at all?

Re: Turbo Setup

with a proper basemap you can boost it, its just not smart to do it until its tuned. Make sure the turbo does spool and the gauge registers boost (no major leak). You shouldnt need to switch the oil unless you're still running 5-20 pisswater, in which case, go to 5-30

Re: Turbo Setup

You could start it without a basemap and just run insanely rich. It might stall or do something terrible after a few minutes... but it'll start.

Re: Turbo Setup

Awesome, all I needed to know. I have everything ready expect my oil pan. I just need to get the return line fitting & 1/8 Npt for the oil temp welded up. Anyone have any pictures of where they have there returns lines? I'll probably do a mock up this weekend so I can visual see how the lines gonna run.

Re: Turbo Setup

Golden Eagle makes this amazing little thing that goes between your block and your oil filter. It has two ports one bigger one and one 1/8NPT - but the big one can be stepped down. I use it for sending oil to my turbo - You could probably use it for the gauge. However - I'm not sure if that's the best location for it... If someone else could back me up.

Excellent!! And as far as the oil cooler and sensors and whatnot. You're talking about an oil cooler "sandwich" adapter. I got mine on Ebay for like $24 (ref pic). They also have a website - www.glowshift.com - I like it, nice piece of kit.

Re: Turbo Setup

My Golden Eagle sandwich plate is going on 6k miles and no leaks. Guess that's the difference between $24 and $90.

Re: Turbo Setup

Well, I haven't actually put it on yet - since my office is still full of turbo parts and my car isn't - but it seems very well made. Everything lines up with the oil filter (off the car), all the edges are smooth, so on and so forth. It would be pretty hard to screw something like this one up. I mean its a cast (aluminum I think) piece with some holes drilled in it. If it had moving parts I'd be a little more concerned. I'm sure the Golden Eagle one is very nice, and a definite sure win, but I think this one that I got from glowshift should do the trick. Plus it has 4 NPT ports, not just 2. Four is better than two. This concept applies to cheeseburgers, beer, and ***** too.
