Boosting opinion

Ok I just thought of something that might be a little less pricy but not sure.

My old dilema was either boosting the D17 motor or doing a k20 swap and maybe down the line boost the k20. I looked at the comparisions and the power is about the same (not the k20 boosted) but the k20 would be more reliable since it is all motor. I was more worried about getting to greedy and appling too much boost and blowing the D17 motor.

With that in mind, something just came across my mind. Would it be better just to purchase another D17 block and boost that and just keep my stock one for back up? If I blow that motor I can always put my original in and it should be fine right? Does blowing the motor affect the tranny or anything else? Also should I upgrade internals some on the motor or just boost it straight up since I have a spare? Any inputs would be great. Thanks.
