EL mani comin back? MAYBE so...
Re: EL mani comin back? MAYBE so...
Why 44mm? I know its not bad to go bigger on a wastegate but the 38mm will be fine for anything these motors will do. The 44mm retails at over $100 more. I've seen plenty of V8s run almost 1000 HP through 2 38mm on TT setups and never have issues. Seems like overkill. Looks like a pretty nice manifold though, good work.

Seriously though, why question Paul and what he is doin? He does this stuff for a reason. I'm sure he knows what he's doin or else he would have stuck with the 38mm.
Re: EL mani comin back? MAYBE so...
I've never actually done the research myself, but from what I've "heard" is that the 35/38 mm wastegate diaphragms will fail with time using leaded fuel. The 44 is supposed to hold up to it just fine. Not sure of the validity of this, though.
Re: EL mani comin back? MAYBE so...
^^^yeah i understand that but aren't most of us using unleaded fuel. if you look in his other post he says he wants to keep fab time down and also cost down so why no use the 35/38 mm wg over the 44
Re: EL mani comin back? MAYBE so...
That was my thoughts exactly. Unless someone is using a big *** turbo on low boost there should never be a problem. I wasnt questioning it to be a ******** Drew, just curious to know the reason. No need to get all defensive.

Leaving the option of race gas, for one, better boost control on larger turbos two and making it a more reliable piece, it will be a no-brainer.
I am not willing to sacrifice integrity of the item, or quality of it, to save a few bucks to use a 38mm. That's on the premise of buying a Lotus and going to Walmart for 4 for a $100 tires to put on it. It makes no sense.

^^^^ i understand this also.but isn't the 38 mm good for us in the range that we would be using it . you say that for high boost apps the 44 mm is better , but most of the top booster here are in the 25 psi range and lower. isn't that still in the range for the 38 mm. mybe if you could leave this as an option for us you can get the 35mm or the 44mm. i would think this would be the best way to do it. some people are never going to boost like andyman so the 44 would be overkill.i know for my project the 44mm would be overkill and waste of money , that could have been but to something else. i am not trying to be a dick head, all i am trying to do it get the right info. b/c in the end i am buying one of these when i start my turbo project.

Some might say that 'well gee, you did a 38mm with Andy's...why not this one....' Well, Andy's manifold had an entirely different set of circumstances, runner configuration and collector design. His was a incredibly short sprayed, 4-1 pyramid merge, where are this is a true 4-1 pyramid merge collector that flows a bid more, and picks up velocity pretty well. With increased velocity in the collector, it makes the gases rush in/out quickly. On smaller diameter tubing (i.e.-38mm WG), the gas flows so quick, it actually creates a form of drag and starts to revert, which causes poor boost regulation issues, like creep or spikes. The 44mm slows down that gas some to keep it steady and controllable. Hence, the choice from the 44.

yeah we questioned him so he can explain why he did this and why it is better, now he just explained it,we weren't questioning him to be *******s.

It just came off the one guy was doubting Paul's judgment and not questioning why he was doing it.

Re: EL mani comin back? MAYBE so...
Sigh....so looks like the 38mm Tial I just bought will be sold when I do the second stage of the build. I just gots to have that equal length mani! As sexy as your new cast log manifold is, this one takes the cake. You need to slow down the R&D so I can have time to fart around with my initial install before plunking down more gobs of cash for all this neat, new ****!
Re: EL mani comin back? MAYBE so...
ok why not add the 38 as an option. i for one would not want the 44 on my set up b/c i am not going anywhere near 14+ psi for the life of my car. at most i will be doing is 8 psi and thats it. so why not offer the 38 for low boost and the 44 for high boost. i am just looking at it this way (why do i need a 44 if the 38 will get the job done for my app the 44 will just be overkill and i will never use it to its full potential. this is like the guys who add things on there car and never use it. just so they can say that they have it on there car.
