ok...for all the non believers with the right research it can be done. Keep in mind all honda parts are interchangable.
i guess i'm a pioneer in this subject...

Wow.
All Honda parts are interchangeable?
Can I stick a NSX Motor on my Honda Lawn Mower?
BTW, Research alone won't put a DOHC on my D17, a lot of engineering and labor would be involved, at which point I would be better off buying a BMW M3.

It's been said before in this thread...But you're a fvcking douche if you think a DOHC from ANY other Honda motor will bolt right up to a D17 block. Unless you have your own CNC machine and a whole hell of a lot of money to mill your own, you're SOL. But I have a solution to your problem, it's called a K swap! Already comes with Dual Cams!
For some of the old school memebers out there...Is this reminding anyone of the Black99vtec **** of a couple years ago? I stumbled onto one of his threads while searching, and read all the threads he started about his D16 swap that was "so badass"

Everyone who thinks I am a moron, fine. Tuning is all about trying new things and pushing the envelope. It's so easy to do a K20 swap and call it the day and is prob cheaper....and yes I am engineer and yes there is alot of custom metal work. This is a project car so stay tuned for some pics.

My question would be just how close are the bolt patterns. Maybe like post some gasket overlaying each other. Its a hell of a thought.I remember the os gilken head swap for datsuns a long time ago it was like 10g's just for a sohc to dohc conversion. I would think the if the bolt alignment was off by too much it would be nearly impossible. But hey most any thing is possible it all depends on the size of your pocket book. I would like to see some pics or some thing of what you have found so far!

actually your not a pioneer in this subject at all. It isn't possible, well not isn't but not feesable. There is no DOHC head for the D-series except the DZ head found in some 92-95 civics. And that is not interchangable with the d17, or atleats not a difrect bolt on. The head studs line up. The oil flow holes form the head don't match the block in anyway at all. So unless your an engineer with a machine shop handy its not going to work out at all.
The electronics are complety diffrent as well. Its not a simple OBD-2 to OBD-1 harness converter. You would have to somehow mate the d17 with a d16ZC harness. In order to run a distributer ignition system but with d17 sensors
And if that somehow works out, you have to run a new fuel system for the new intake manifold you wil lbe useing as well, then figure out how to mate those sensors in, unless you manage to make a d17 manifold fit a ZC head.
So is it possible to run a d17 with a DOHC? simple anwser yes. Feesable? not in the least bit I would say your looking at about $25,000 to make something like that work. Thats if you DIY. And the extra maybe 10hp definatly would not be worth it. A built k20 turbo would be a much better choice for that kind of money, and you could also get some serious suspension wit teh left over cash.
So before you come in here talking like you know everything, stop and think that maybe some people here are pioneers to the d17 in the first palce and know what the hell is going on. Don't believe me in what I say? Rip your haed off the block and compare the blocks and heads of the d17 to the d15/d16. Nothing is interchangable with out alot of modification. and the electronics are even farther apart than the parts them selves. So unless your also skilled at creating custom wiring, sensors, circuitry, and programs, I seriously doubt you have the time skills and time to do somethign like that. I have a degree in electronic engineering and carreid a 3.8GPA to get it and I know for damn sure I wouldn't be able to create something that complex. It takes a team of hundreds of honda engineers years to make something like that.

It is near impossbile to bolt a sohc head to a dohc block.
I mean what are u aiming for??? Famous??? Magzine??? Power???
Also what kinda ecu are u gone to use, wiring harness, mounts, tranny..........?

.dude seriously think before you talk. obviously you have not done your research. all honda parts are not interchangable. this is going to be a HUGE waste of time and money if you even attempt this. haha...oh and please post pictures...haha.

I remember 3-4 months ago, there was a thread about 1 guy instaling a custom supercharger kit on his d17. He was told its not worth it, it was impossible & costly. He was defending his idea like there is no tommorow.
....Now, I dont think this guy posts any longer, hopefuly he has reached his goal, but no one here knows for sure....
Also there was a guy hoping to put f20 w/k20 tranny into civic.....
I see where d17 dohc idea going to.
