It didn't do it for again for a long time until I got in a wreck. Past couple weeks its been doing it a lot more and the overflow tank was full and spraying out coolant. I took it to Honda and they couldn't get it to overheat or figure it out. They said its holding pressure. I replaced the thermostat again, replaced the radiator cap, changed coolant and let all air bubbles out. Oil and coolant looked fine when i changed them. last time the temp gauge said it was overheating the fans weren't on when i popped the hood. but if i turn the fans on when its overheating it doesn't help. It USUALLY happens when i'm at a drive-thru but sometimes when i'm driving. and almost always lasts less than a minute. I'm doing a compression test tomorrow. then a leak down test when i get a chance. Hopefully that gives me an answer.
If the water pump was bad would that be why the heat goes cold when I'm stopped?

when people come into our shop and tells us this things about there cars... most guys automatically its the head gasket...we had a guy come in last week with overheating problems similar to what u say and his water pump went... but gearbox is on the right track... first check the oil... if no signs there check/change the raditor cap...another thing is that u might have air bubbles in your system... and your fan might not be turning on.. also another possible reason might be the water pump... then when all that fails last but not least its the head gasket...
Well got a problem and by reading through the post i thing you got it right.
Dont know yet but i will. Here is the problem.
I got a 04ex5sp manual wen i drive it normally the coolant temp wont go to overheating unless i drive alot of miles and then come to a stop the needle
will go all the way up.If i do higher rpm it will happen in shorter time and miles.
Also the water reservoir is pissing out the coolant.if ya know what i mean.
So i start cheking radiator cap, thermostat, oil on the milky stuf, gonna check
radiator on exhaust gasse in the weekend.........sinds the exhaust gasse are
greyich and not white and coolant isnt disapering and the oil is still fine.
NO gasket blown. So what i was thinking at normal 120km/h it get enphough
air cooling but wen i come to a stop the coolant is too hot.......................]
so i think its like you say waterpump sinds its out off plastic.NO good water
circulation thats way coolant gets to hot and bills up more pressure and raditor cap work sinds it going to the reserve tank but it will keeps filling
until it runs over.but ill let you know if it was the waterpump.
also let me know what ya think.
peace

If its happening under boost its defintetly a headgasket. Once you get it back together strap the car on a dyno with a wideband and check your tune. Whatever you do, dont keep driving the car like that.
