Turbo Coolant lines

Alright guys I have a custom turbo kit with a T25 turbo. My mechanic and good friend says its not necessary to run coolant lines to the turbo to cool it down. He said the hotter the better. I'm a little skeptic, should I run the lines or let it be.

if your turbo supports them, I'd install them.
This will definately prolong life of the turbocharger.
Some peeps at 240sx forums say it not necessary, but I doubt its resonable to skip on it.

cooler air = condensed O2 = more HP

run the lines. It will make a difference when you need it.

the hotter the better? I would not let them touch your car again.

Do they know WHY your turbo has coolant lines?

It is because the turbo will get soo damn hot that it will actually cook your oil. That sediment will plug the oil feed orifices and starve the turbo of oil. And that will cause it to destroy itself.

There is a very big difference between oil cooled turbos and water cooled turbos. Oil cooled turbos have a very large oil cavity that allows a much greated volume of oil to be inside the turbo at all times in order to cool it down. A Water cooled turbo only has a large enough oil cavity to lubricate the bearings. Thats all. The water cooled turbo does not have a sufficient volume oil cavity to cool the turbo down. And you will experience premature failure if you do not hook up the lines.

Mechanic sounds a little off. That is one reason why I will do everything myself, if i can ever get the cash together. It is not easy being a student, maybe this summer i can save enough dough, maybe.

i know what you mean about being a student.

CSUB costs $1100 per quarter plus books. Im spending around $1700-1800 per quarter for school. And i go 6 quarters per year (4 normal quarters, 2 intersessions)

Water lines can be made for pretty cheap. size the ports on the turbo, you'll probably need some big banjo fittings or something (mine are big metric holes), get ones with hose nipples on the other end of the fitting, some 3/8" rubber (radiator or heater) hose, and a pair of nipples for the other end, cut the TB heater return and the feed and return inline with this. Probably can be done for 20 or 30 bucks.

No whining about school.... $1105 per CREDIT.

A hotter turbo will spool a bit faster but honestly do you think ball bearings like heating up to a few thousand degrees with something spinning 100000 rpm on it?
