FYI: Dezod Custom Rods for Turbo

I know this will probably be out of most of your price ranges, but we partnered up with Carrillo Industries, and they are, as some of you may know, the leader in performance connecting rods. They are the industry leader in this. They offer 2 different types of connecting rods, an A-Beam & an H-Beam. H-Beam is the strongest rod you could possibly buy. They are 2nd to none.

Well......the price of the Economical A-Beam is $975 & the Indestructable H-Beam is $1475. Just as an FYI.

Ouchkibibbles.... after such a good price on slugs thats kind of disappointing to see the price on these so high. At $1500 for rods its almost more economical to just keep blowing motors at $300 a pop.
Although I guess the question is..... are these rods able to handle more than you can ever think to throw at it? Not that I'm gonna get there ever, but I know the stock rods are poo...
I guess the best question to ask is, we know **** starts going wrong in the 12 psi range, but has anyone piece by piece destruction tested the guts?

Carrillo's are some of the best rods available. But if you're not breaking 600 whp, a more inexpensive rod will suffice. I'll prolly end up with custom pauters.

Well thats kinda the point I think we're all getting at. We don't need 1000 HP rods. We need maybe 350-400 HP rods at the most, the majority of us would be satisfied with a set of rods good for 250. I mean its great bragging rights to say you got em, but the expense vs. the level of use compared to what they're capable of just isn't adding up. Why pay all that money to use something at best case 20 or 30% of what its capable of.
I hate this argument, but we're still talking Honda D-series motors here.... that kind of power just isn't there without an amount of work that the insane few have the desire to do, and those insane few are probably custom spec'ing everything.

I know. We are attempting to source a reputable custom rod manufacturer that will make rods to work for this app at an affordable price.

On the bright side, atleast we provided some good affordable pistons.

Carillo is without a doubt one of the top rod manufacturers. A lil pricey but not having to worry ever again is priceless to some. But i do see the $/hp standpoint considering the hp amount a d-series will put out.
Nice rods though :P

I know when i was talking with the rep from Crower when i bought my rods, he told me for $1250 he could make my rods out of titanium.

From Carrillo's website:
After experimenting with virtually every other reasonable material, we have found this chromium / nickel / vanadium / molybdenum FORGED alloy to be the best product to meet our stringent requirements for strength and durability.
Some info on titanium rod elasticity and the importance of coatings:
Two things to keep in mind when designing Ti con rods are stiffness and surface engineering. Ti only has ~ 1/2 the elastic modulus of steel, so deflection of the crank end has to be considered. One estimate is that the reduction in mass from a well-optimized steel design to one in Ti is only 12-20%. The most popular alloy is Ti-6Al-4V. Go to Matweb or alloy producers like Timet or RMI for more information on properties.
Regarding surface engineering, Ti has a tendency for fretting and galling, due to its low inherent wear resistance. High end con rods that use titanium are coated, some times with flame-sprayed Mo in order to improve its surface characteristics. Other coatings are possible.

Wow I thought $750 for rods was expensive, that price is crazy. I'm pretty sure these rods are sick but it's not like were going to be pushing 30+psi on our D17. I would be happy with crower maxi lite rods (aren't they rated up to 10psi). Those are a lot better that stock. But anyway, dezod you are doing a great job bringing new products to us. Oh by the way is that fuel system coming out anytime soon. Thanks again.
