Legality...
Could someone please explain to me the legality issues relating to swapping older engines into newer cars?
I went into a local tuner shop to talk with them about prices on a K series (I want a K20a2). I just needed to know how much the whole deal was gonna cost me. I felt like the guys in the shop were making fun of me cuz I want a K20. They made all kinds of suggestions, including an H22!!!!!!
I told them that I thought it wasn't legal. They said it is because we don't have emissions laws/testing in Alabama. And laughed. I then asked if it would take a lot of custom fab. They all got silent except for one guy who says, "I put one in my 98 vic and it ran high 13's."
I kinda gave up on the topic, then asked about pricing a turbo, just to see if they knew what they were talking about. They tried to bring up some NOPI site on the computer and said, "It doesn't look like a turbo is available for your car."
Are these people just stupid? I don't wanna H series in my vic. I just wanted prices on a K. So, I came back to ask you guys what to tell these homo's. Any help would be great.

don't even go back to that shop. they know jack about our civic. Yes, with no emission and test you can swap a older engine. no one will know what u have.
But with all those money you drop for custom mount, lines, and $hit. It is cheaper to do a k20a2.
Go back and ask how they are going to swap a big a$$ h22 in our car?

first of all if they are a real shop, they DONT CHECK NOPI online for availability, they call their own suppliers and vendors.
obviously they havent been reading magazines recently, k20s are the craze right now.

Rep Power: 336 there is a turbo for our car, those idiots should know that. there is nothing illegal about swappin one engine into another body. there is a turbo kit for the d17 motor we have. i am assuming thats what you have right now. the kit is like 4500 bucks from greddy. you can get an intercooler in that kit for more.

Rep Power: 336 ok no cop is gonna ask to see the engine code on your motor under your hood and go online and compare it. lol. but i did think that greddy made turbos for our car. o well.

Rep Power: 0 They do seem like a bunch of idiots. I don't like the way they treat people. They have no clue as to whether or not I had $10k to spend or $10.
I would think that anybody would love to put a K20 in. It seems that after someone gets owned on the track and asks, "Who works on your car?" They might earn extra business.
