Turbo Help

Hi i'm sorry i'm sure this has been asked and everything but i'm gettin extremely frustrated. I was planning on gettin the TSI extreme kit but there are just too many damn fitment problems with it and the damn SF kit is just pure bullshit, and the dezod is somewhat expensive for me right now...

Custom turbos are usually cheaper right....

well if so can somebody please work with me to build my own custom turbo. I know i want a garrett T25bb turbo... i don't really need anything better and it will work fine for me... i just need to know all the other **** i need to do and what i need mad and all that other ****. Somebody please help me build a custom turbo, i really wanna get boosted.

You can help by emailing me: etaylor45@bellsouth.net
givin me a shout on AIM: CanibusJrX
or u can just give me some info through this thread.
But please somebody help me???

I have about 2500 to work with right now so i'm begging for anybody to take a look and help me through this process. Thank you! and sorry if this has been posted before or whatever.

you would need oil return and oil feed lines. I guess your friend is going to make the manifold for you and all of the intercooler pipes. I took a ride on my buddy Don's 2003 civic with a T25 turbo on Friday and it was awesome. Instant response and it wasn't even tuned, he had the emanage but not the typs S injectors so it would basically run out of fuel after 5,000 rpm. He had the regular T25 not the ball bearing one

are u serious, i can deal with that but 3 grand is up there. and i'm sure i can get some of that other **** for cheaper. plus the price would be a lil toned down cause all i want is the T25BB... so is that all the parts i need to have for a complete custom kit or is there anything else???

I believe those are all the parts I need, doesn't even include tuning. I have a one off manifold atleast I never seen one like that on our cars. Should be done this week. I'll post pics when I get it. This is a very expensive hobby. Later.

well i'm not really worried about tuning right now. i'll wait until i know that this is all it is going to be and once i get all the items i need... installation shouldn't be a problem, i should be able to get that for free... just as long as the complete is close to 2500 i'll definately do it. thanx a bunch, and if anybody sees anything he has left off or anything that can be added let me know...

yeah it sure is a expensive hobby i've already put pretty close to 2 grand in it already (lol i'm talking like that's a lot but it is to me since i'm in school and don't exactly have the best job)

Some advice for saving money on a custom kit:
1. Get the HKS manifold.
2. Get an internally gated turbo.
3. Use the turbo's wastegate to adjust boost initially (no BC; manual or electric).
4. Learn how to weld or make REALLY good friends with someone who can.

$2500 is a VERY slim budget for a turbo setup. If you shop around alot and get some really good deals you may be able to pull it off.

^STL01Civic gave you a good list. You're going to need a boost gauge (I think most EBCs could double as your boost gauge) I haven't priced T25BBs but you may be able to find one for $500 or $600.

I love www.ATPturbo.com great site for custom kit builders.

ok sounds good... i work and all so it's not like i couldn't get up to 3000 dollars or more but... i'm just so eager, and at least wanna know what the parts are to make a complete kit... i guess as time goes buy i'll definately have more money but for right now i ain't into spending close to 3000 dollars.

when u said "3. Use the turbo's wastegate to adjust boost initially (no BC; manual or electric)." u mean just as i start out but later on i can add a boost controller right? or do u mean it's not important to have one with a internal wastegate?

and
"4. Learn how to weld or make REALLY good friends with someone who can."

what would i need the welding for? I have a couple of friends who can weld and all but what exactly would i need it for??

well with the 2 different lists i've gotten the price range is between 2500-3200...
i'm pretty sure with most of these parts i can get some cheaper prices and installation shouldn't be a problem cause i know out of the friends i have i can find one that knows something bout turbo's or go through some of my friends friends... Basically i just wanna be able to run with my friends stock turboed GTI VR6.

Yeah. I meant, just to get you started, you don't need a boost controller but can add one later.

If you are building a custom kit, you will need to get many things fabricated. (Downpipe, pre/post intercooler piping, turbo intake, etc.) Alot of welding is involved in the fabrication of these pieces and if you can do it yourself, you will save alot of money.

civic01vtec brings up a good point too. People always forget about those parts.

I am almost done with my custom kit. I need to install all the parts I have, take my oil pan to get my oil return flange welded, limp to an exhaust shop for dumptube fabrication, and limp to the dyno shop for tuning. Hopefully, I'll have some time off of work soon so I can do it.

forgot about BOV. I have to agree with "civic01vtec" that people do custom intend to get the best parts.

You don't need a BOV, though. If I were on a strict turbo budget that would be one of the first things to go. You can always add a BOV later.

You put stress on the turbo when you don't use a BOV, not good
