Garrett vs. Dezod
Garrett vs. Dezod
Ok i've been keeping up with the anticipation of Dezods kit but frankly, the price of it scares the living **** outta me. I visited his page for the kit and calculated all the **** he offers with it (Turbo timer, PCV, Boost Controller, etc.) and shortly after i found a kit that www.turbo-kits.com offers for the D17. Its a Garrett T25. Is this kit not worth the money or is it unreliable? It's only $2899 which is about $2000 cheaper than Dezods kit so i need some of your opinions on this issue because im getting close to buying a kit soon. Thanks!

well like I read in the thread, Dezod said that quality and reliability isn't cheap. I'm more than sure that the ole "you get what you pay for" addage is true. personally I would'nt base my decision on price alone, sure it's a big factor but I dont want to be having all these problems. just my 2 cents though.

At least by purchasing the kit from a reputable vendor like Dezod you know that you have an open forum to contact and discuss things with the person you're buying from.....not like some other faceless company I suppose.
Quality is never cheap and I wouldn't want to skimp on something like a turbo setup.

Go buy Dezods kit if you want a kit that's going to work and is going to fit right and if you want support... go buy some other kit if you wanna cheap out and be broke down on the side of the road... seriosuly guys you ALL need to look around the FI boards... you don't even need to search all the infos on the FIRST PAGE! ... =*( lol

Garrett vs Dezod?
Sounds like a lawsuit.
Garrett doesn't make turbo kits for our civics. They make turbocharger assemblies, and I'm almost 100% positive that Dezod is using a Garrett based turbo in his kits.

dezod's kit is basically a custom made kit pieced together with all of the best products, which is exactly what i would do if i had to do it again.
Like what everyone else said........ you get what you pay for.

yup i mean i would basically put together the same stuff with minor differences like preference in bov and etc...its just that quality and cheap dont belong in the same sentance when we are talking about turbos...

its one thing to buy a kit altogether, but you can also save money buy doing it custom byyourself! many things like BOVs< wastegates you may be able to buy for cheap, but when it comes down to Manifold and Downpipe, your going to spend more money on something that hasn't been tested on your car!
I just really want to see the # on the manual kit! and if there are anyproblems

the t25 is a very potent turbo, which is stock on sr20det motors, they spool quite fast, and i think it's a very capable turbo with minimal boost lag
i have a t3/t4 46trim and my full boost (10psi) don't arrive until 3100rpm

one thing nobody seems to mention but what I like about Dezod's kit (besides Dezod's obvious committment to us 7th Gen'ers is the real-live functioning catalytic converter.

Another option is to go to your local credit union and take out a personal loan. They'll give you a check. You deposit the check in your bank, then send the money to dezod.
Then you get a legal binding loan, so no problems for either party, and your turbo kit instantly!

i used to launch at 3200 stock TC with over 10lbs boost on a stock td04. Running mid 14's stock = fun stuff. Unfortunately, I am looking for more power, so either a 1st gen monte carlo or other gm with a 502 crate motor, or as a last resort, and srt-4 with slicks. I had a good deal getting my version of a custom turbo on my car.
But!
I'm also ended up buying all the extras that are needed for the proper set up anyway.
Spending just as much an may be even more plus I'm going thru all the trial and failure with parts, services, reseach and development that Dezod already went thru.
With Dezods kit the foot work is done and tried on a 7thgen also all the necesary parts are all included when you get his kit.
Is not easy to succsesfully boost our 7thgens.
Also concider the good on line service you'll get.
I gotten some good tips from him during my build up.
Though I'm learning a lot not everyone wants to go the route I went.
Is to much work and $$
Just my .02

I have heard the TSI is a very reliable kit. Comes with a fuel system that will work for now until upgraded, but it works fine to boost you at about 6psi I would say? not sure on that. As long as you are tuned by people who know what their doing. You will get a very reliable kit froM TSI. needboost.com sells the same kit for 2599. Comes with fuel system, injectors, and either TSI management tool, or SAFCII. I believe its the management tool, which is better than the safc. They also fixed their fitment problems, so should be direct bolt and go (go to the tuner that is, hehe). Just have somebody who knows what their doing hook it up or help you. Im having my neighbor, and my friend help who both have awesome cars, and welding skills with all the tools.
Talk to eternalbluevic, he has a TSI kit as well, and is very pleased with it, as he said I will be. He hasnt gotten tuned yet, but loves it and says it drives nice. its good for 325+ HP as well.
Not trying to talk down your kit dezod, I would definately buy your kit if I had the cash, but the TSI is about 2,000 cheaper with all necessary stuff to get you going. You do have an awesome kit though. I am in the same situation as he is, dont want to spend that much. Older civics turbo kit are like 699 on ebay, than you buy a few things and for 1500 or less your good to go.
Like ACURAwerx said, lot on tuning. How many people on this site actually have tuned turbo'd vic.s Not a lot of them. They cant afford it or whatever. Of course they will think the kit is crappy if they blow their motor when they failed to tune it. People see turbos on here, and say I want one, get it than fail to do the most important part, TUNE!
Just make a decision youll be happy with and know what you need to buy extra (clutch, tuning, possible welder, whatever else) Write down or figure out what you need to spend, and what you have. If you dont have enough for everything including tuning, just wait til you have it all. I am gonna order the TSI kit this week, and it will sit in my room for about 3 weeks. Im getting new tires next week, clutch a couple weeks later, and Ill be ready to go.

They fixed the manifold issues for the new kits. FYI, thats what your talking about, correct? Either way I have a few people with complete shops that could do what I need for free.
