so i was driving about 30 mph and i heard this knocking sound. so i got to my firends house and i pop the hood and its coming from the cam gear side. when it idles it also does it and gets a lil loud.
now i got my oil changed 3K ago, and i checked my oil and it was low, so i put a pt. of oil in it and it got a lil better but it is still doing it. but when i was look under the hood the car was on and i look insdie my car and its started to over heat a lil. the needle went 3/4's of the way and then came back down 2 times. hasnt done it since. i never over heated beofre, and never had any problems. any idea what this could be? thanks

well you should have oil somewhere on you engine or tranny or somewhere or at least be smoking from the exhaust. try taking off the piping going to the IC and check for oil there. there is no way that you can't have no smoke or oil anywhere. If your losing oil then it has to be going somewhere.

rigth i totally understand it has to be going somewhere but i hae no clue where. theres none on the ground or in the engine bay or tranny. its not leaking into the antifreeze. i dont see smoke coming out of the exhaust but the normal stuff. doesnt smell like its burning oil. im puzzled.

clack clack clack and gets faster when rpms go up. i mostly hear it when the car is at idle. when my car is idling around 700 to 850 rpms its not as loud, only when the rpms rise its gets louder. thats what my v-afc says, is that normal for a turbo's car?
But i meani put a qt. of oil in and it went clack clack and hasnt did it since, and i drove to work and back then back up to central jersey. so i put about 120 miles today and its been good. i check the oil its fine. it still has the same power didnt lose anything, its got its pull to it still. no lose of power.
i was parked for about 5 mins and i was talking to my cuz and i looked to see what color my exhaust was and usually its black i guess with a lil white tint. today it looked like it had a blue tint. that could be cause im running a lil rich. but i have no clue if that has anything to do with it but the more info you have someone has to have a clue. ive only had this turbo setup since november, so still kinda learn the fine detail about this.
sorry so long

if you saw blue smoke, that means its burning oil. running rich is like gray/blackish smoke. I put my turbo on 2 days ago and I have no knocking at all. My missing link was making it idle and run like **** so I took it off and it runs great with no cel's.....and I don't understand why. I though the missing link was required, but it just makes it run crapy. Anyways, any knocking is bad for any kind of motor, n/a or boosted. and you shouldn't need a valve adjustment at 50k unless you drive the **** out of it all the time which will screw it up real quick. and if its loosing oil and there are no leaks on the motor, the only place it can go is out the tail pipe, which means you are burning it. sounds like you need some new rings on your pistons or seals on your valves, sucks to be you dude...lol. and given that you are burning oil and have knocking noises from your engine at 50k, I think its safe to say that you screwed your engine up and its going to need some serious work. How many psi are you running?, how do you drive it?, and did you upgrade the fuel to handle above 4psi? the stock fuel can only handle 4 max, that's what I am running until I get money to upgrade the fuel system.
I wonder why he thinks that. synthetic doesn't break down under heat as much as organic. and the turbo puts the oil through more heat. synthetic also lasts longer. I have used syn. in both my vehicles and my parents use it too and all the vehicles run great on it. it comes out cleaner when you change the oil too.
you need to go to 5w30 or 10w30 asap. the 5w20 crap is too thin after the engine gets some miles on it. and the extra heat of the turbo doen't help the thin oil either. Here is a link to the "7thgen fuel fact"
