Somone please help me decide...

Me and my dad have decided to swap instead of turbo. Anyways, I've been trying to think of my cheapest option for what suits me. To be honest I don't go to the drag strip very much because I'm more into autoX (thats beside the point). Mainly, I just want to beat the Si's in my town and my friends stock 98 prelude. I want to go with the cheapest and most effective possible combo. Now a k20a is pretty much out of the question. I would prefer a k20a2 for obvious reasons but thats still expensive (found one for 4000$). My last option is a k20a3 but thats not going to have enough power for the trouble. Here's my debate though, i could get the k20a3 and then do hondata while spending less money then the k20a2. Does that sound right?

1. I might be wrong because I don't know much bout hondata but aren't they about 1000$ (just a guess).

2. What would a k20a3 with hondata run?

3. How much would a k20a3 run for?

thanks in advance.

I forgot what model the a3 is for, but a hondata 9000 rpm reflash (which give you also a tuned map) is only about 500 dollars. Mind you these reflashes are for a STOCK setup. They are made for cars with no intake or exhaust or anything. So when you add these parts your going to flucuate on power increase and decreases.

hondata flashes for 5-600 bucks aren't gonna give you a 9000rpm redline. not on an si motor. and the flash is actually optomized on the k-series with a cold air intake. they do have flashes for a few different setups, including boost, or k-pro is around 1000 and lets you reflash it on your own as much as you want, with any other tweeks you ould think of.

k20a3 swaps aren't very pricey. plus 600-1000 depending on what hondata you go with.

LOL, well I'm basing my data off a type-s, which is the only thing I'd be driving, not a base lol, sorry for my wrong info =*(

to be honest i'm not really sure what a realistic price for the k20a3. i've heard of guys with ep's swapping the type s 6 speed in and i was wondering if we its possible if i do that. if i can do that then i won't get the a3 tranny which is like 400 bucks and get the a2 tranny for like 700 (thats what i hear they cost). for just the engine/ecu an a3 should just be like 1100 bucks or so shouldn't it? i plan on getting a new clutch/flywheel when i get the engine, maybe get the a2 head which i hear is like $600 or so, v2 intake, and then hondata. i have a pretty good price range, i'm just looking to spend as little as possible. i can afford the a2 swap but after everything i probably wouldn't be able to afford any mods for a while. this is why i prefer to spend less on the a3 and just mod it. i want a high 14 second car, i might be giving the a3 a little too much credits but i've seen n/a ep's do that with mods so i figure it's worth a shot.
What kind of times could the a3 run with these mods and a decent driver?
(stage 3 clutch, 11 lb flywheel, hondata, a2 head, v2 intake)

just get the a3 and swap the head of an a2.. that will give you a higher profile to work with.. as fot the tranny you can use anyone you want either from the a, a2, or a3 and it would still work
