After i boost, i'm planning on building my D17 to increase reliability and also to run more boost safely
. I need some help on my plans. I have no experience in engine builds so i really don't know all i need in order to do this. Someone please explain to me what all to get, cheap place to get parts, and estimated price for professional installation.
So far all i've been able to find is Turbo Specialties Forged pistons complete with wrist pins, keepers, and ring. (I forget what compression Ex pistons are, but these forged pistons have a 8.5:1 compression ratio.........is that good?
Sleeves?
Valve Springs?
Retainers?
Rods?

Rods and pistons should be fine to replace......This is the main concern.
Cam is not necessary...Most of our OE cams actually work quite well for turbo.
Cam gear could help when tuning because you can shift the power curves a little more
Valve Springs & Retainers would be good if you decided to run 15 PSI or more......

Okay, i found on Truehonda.com they can build and port my head for about 1G. So that takes care of springs and retainers. Damm, i gotta send them my head?
All that's left (that i know of) is the bottom end minus the pistons.
Rods?
Sleeves?
Cam?
Cam shaft?

Sorry dezod, didn't see your post.
Okay, minus the cam.
What started my idea of build and boost the hell out of it was after seeing guns talking about how he ran 10-12psi daily on his ex for 2 years problem free with a ported head and stock bottom end. I figure do a complete build and run 10-12 daily like guns, then 14-15psi for the track.
i plan on starting with t28bb cuz i like lower end power vs top end power for daily driving. Then of course after the build, refabing the setup with your manifold, T3 super 60 and tial wastegate. Then replacing the extra injectors on the injector clip from the TSI kit with RSX injectors. Would that work for 10-12psi?
I have a dumb question, what are sleeves? What's the purpose of them?

Okay, so as it is now i have planned:
---(Dh-Racing) PnP Competition Head work- includes and involves: Diamond Milling, Bead Blasted Head/Combustin Chambers, 3 Angle Valve Job, High Flow Racing Valves, Line Honed Cam Journals, Hot Tanking, upgraded valve springs and titanium retainers
---Turbo Specialties Forged 8.5:1 pistons
Need Rods, Sleeves if nessesary, head studs if nessesary.
Anythings else?

What do you think is the average cost a shop (tuner shop) will charge to install pistons and rods?? And then later to intall head when i get it back from being build, ported and polished?

Crower makes rods for them. Carillo and Pauter can as well. When I do an engine build it depends on how extreme the motor is for how much I charge. It can vary from a basic $500 put it together to a full on $2000+ blueprinted assembly and tuning.

Found Crower rods for d17a
what does this mean?:
Will not fit factory piston pin boss - Bushed Fit
-and-
Will not fit factory piston pin boss - Pressed Fit
That mean it won't fit stock pistons??
Would this fit turbo specialties forged pistons found here?:

There's plenty of peeps on here beyond 70k boosted. Have a compression test done to see if you have any compression loss or "blow by". From another of you posts, you were inquiring about an engine build. I think with an engine build and build head you should be A-ok. if ya turbo, run mild boost (4-6psi) until you get built. Good luck

When I get my money ready next november, I am going to have Whip Factory work on my head and help me out with the rods and stuff. They specialize in hondas. They are located in IL tho...

/\/\wicked awesome FAQ on engine builds.
I'm not looking to go as far as buying a new engine and doing the work myself.
To put in new rods and pistons, would a shop have to take the engine out of my car? How much would that cost?

I would recommend having the engine removed from the car before you do any internal work to it. The block will need bored and honed, and thats real difficult with the engine inside the car.
