b series engines
k i need some info here, my friend has an engine from i think a 93 civic, he says it;s a dohc so i was wondering if anyone new if itcould be a b16a or a b16b i'm pretty sure they'er the same, i just want to make sure cause i might buy it for my civc and drop it in.
The DOHC civic engine didn't come to the states until 1999 with the Si coupe. They had a civic Si back then but it was SOHC. I suppose it's possible he has a JDM civc engine which in that case would be a ZC DOHC, but those things only had 130 HP and the aftermarket scene is very little for these. Check the code on the side of his engine and see what the thing is. Maybe he doent know his a$$ from his elbow and thinks hes got something sweet. You want a B16a. Those are awesome and have a huge aftermarket scene. What year Vic do you have?
it will say b16a or b16b on the block right where the tranny bolts on ... but if ur civic is newer than the engine it is illegal for u to swap it in.. u wont pass emissions but if ur in louisiana like me they dont even do emissions yet so it be ok
b16a is a jspec motor its 170 hp b16a2 or 3 is usdm .. 160 hp due to lower compression. b16b is a type r motor 180 hp lsd tranny due to high compression ceramic coated pistons and a higher rev limit.. i doubt its a b16b not many of those around in the states and for the money buying a b16b u can almost buy a b18c5 integra type R motor.. and another thing if its a 95 or older engine its obd1 so u will need a conversion for ur harness if urs is a 96 or newer civic .. if its a jspec b16a its obd0 which is a obd1 ecu with obd2 plugs.. means it acts like a obd1 ecu which always runs better.. got any more questions give me a reply ill be glad to help
have a nice day

b16a and b16b's are very different ... b16a's are 160 hp, 108 tq, approximately ...
b16b's are essentially integra type r motors ... they are destroked b18c blocks with a b16 crank (I believe), factory ported b16 head etc etc ... the good stuff.
and you can't put a B motor into a 7thgen ... it's not legal and they don't have the proper mounts out ... unless you get custom ones

i'll be looking at it tomorrow, i have a 2001 civic. and i don't think they have the laws up here yet for the emissions so i think i'll be good. just need to find someone to help put it in.. if it's just a regular engine and nothing special then i have another engine in mind and it's a tye r engine, and if i can't get that then i'm going to wait for the k20 prices to come down or find a wrecked rsx -s
its gonna be a tough install u are gonna need an experienced shop to make custom motor mounts axles and ur gonna have to splice alot of **** on the harness to make it work ur gonna spend too much money getting this done just go custom turbo kit or k-series swap... ud be faster and prob richer than with the b-series stick with ur own generation motor .. im sure many people agree with me
Sometimes, I can see right through myself ...

okay, about all this legal stuff. some of you people are stupid, at registration, they don't check the car & inspection is a joke, throw down some extra money like all the domestics do when they want to pass inspections and viola!
also, in nopi's racewars, the dragger don't even use k-series, they all use b-series. parts are cheaper and readily accessible.
