For a while now i've seriously been looking at boosting. Lately i've had my sights set on a TSI kit with a garret T28bb. Then i saw a few peeps with custom kits that cost way lower than the $3,145.75 for this kit. I was curious what everyone thought would be the best COMPLETE custom turbo kit. What's the best setup with an HKS D17 turbo manifold w/ T3 super 60 .48 a/r?
Well damn, what i'm really asking here is what else to i need other than this?
HKS D17 turbo manifold for T3
Garret T3 Super 60 .48 a/r
Spearco intercooler
Tial or Greddy BOV
Custom charge pipes (where the heck do i get these)
SF fuel system
Downpipe (where can i get this!?)
.....and what else?
Also what's the CHEAPEST custom turbo kit for daily driving running only 6lbs
Thanx everyone

Well that manifold won't be cheap, because its made for the T25 flange, not a T3. That manifold, a GT25, no intercooler, Bosch recirc valve, and a big pump and FMU.

The HKS manifold is built for a T25 turbo that is internally gated. So you have some manifold issues there.

BOV
Charge Piping
Oil drain & feed lines
Vac lines
T fittings
Silicone couplers
Map isolation valve or sometype of device
fuel system
EMU

colder spark plugs

check out www.homemadeturbo.com this dude did a Twin turbo setup on a LS block in his civic hatch...for like $800 dollars. But remember...you get what you paid for, so when you take shortcuts you usually get shorcutted.

Turbo results and reliability are a direct reflection of your $$, time and research spent on the project. Seldom do you see cheap kits turn out realyl well without hours of painstaking searching for top knoch bargains that you STILL have to live in fear with.
Here it is laid out for you:
You can buy a complete kit and spend anywhere between 3 and x thousand dollars. Have someone install it for you and spend another what 500 dollars? or.......
You can piece it together yourself and spend half the money and learn a whole lot about your own car and cars in general. Not to mention if it breaks then you will most likely be able to fix it b/c you installed it....basically doing these things makes you intimate with every sound and thump your car makes....
I do however recommend finding someone very experienced to tune your car....this is where trial and error can yield bad results, i have tuned my car thus far and it has been the subject of most of my frustration
I have spent around 2.5k so far and have been boosting for almost a year now...
here's what i have:
turbo:
t3/t4b (found a guy in cali who rebuilds all kinds of turbo, came with 90 day warranty)
sf downpipe
revhard manifold
used hks intercooler (got from sr20forum)
built my own intercooler piping ( www.jegs.com ) (**used my cai for the top portion of the piping and had the bov tig welded on, works perfectly**)
painted all piping flat black
custom intercooler spayer (home depot garden sprayers (little tiny spayes), a coolant container, a one way valve from a pet store, some clear wiper hose, and a wiper sprayer pump wired to a switch in the cabin)
couplers
greddy bov
tial 38mm wastegate (.5 bar spring)
custom dump tube (built this too) open dump
i love turbo dump
oil return kit
welded bung on oil pan
fuel:
return fuel system -6an return lines ( www.jegs.com ) be very meticulous with this, one side of the intank system has to be blocked and it tends to come unblocked.....
walbro 255lph fuel pump (ebay)
greddy emanage (injector harness and support tool **haven't used the injector harness yet**)
aeromotive fully adjustable rising rate regulator (ebay)
misc:
boost gauge
a/f gauge
fuel pressure gauge (under hood)
ngk colder plugs
moved battery to trunk
what i need/want:
boost controller (holding off on this)
larger injectors
act clutch
bigger brakes
better tires
Patience is the name of the game when it comes to finding good prices on things, don't do like I did and have your car up on jackstands for an entire semester waiting for stuff to come in....
I have raced at Gainesville International Raceway, Ocala National Raceway and NOPI RaceWars at Maryland International Raceway, been pushin it hard and she's still purrin' after almost a year and 40k miles I have ran into small problems here and there but it's all about the love.....
good luck really gettin' to know your car bro......
