Also I have another question. Im not doing this but just FMI, can you use an intercooler as an intake. Like if you close off one side and run piping from the other side would that work? Just wondering.

And why would you do that?

As air gets compressed, it raises in temperature. An intercooler simply brings the temperature down some. Their is no filter in an intercooler, so i don't know why you would want to run one as an intake.

Obviosly you have no clue about how an intercooler works.

An intercooler is sealed. It is not open. If you close off one side and the other side went to the throttle body the motor wouldn't run. It could not get any air.

You can spray water directly on an intercooler with the motor running all day long and nothing will happen except maybe the air will be a little cooler entering the motor.

You have a swap and a turbo but you don't know how an intercooler works. If you are installing your own intercooler you should know this. I think everyone will agree with me on this one. LOL

Not trying to make you look bad or be an *** about it but, come on.

yea, but if you follow his post, he's a noob about a lot of stuff. Yet, he has a boosted k20 in his civic.

I just keep thinking...what the hell, god must be on crack.

its not that you can't have a turbo, its more like how come you have one.

Sort of like, would you buy and use a cnc milling machine without knowing how it works?

if u take one side off of the intercooler and use it as an intake, ur turbo will be spinning like no other and burn it up eventually...BAD

i doubt its that people are thinking you want to run an intercooler as an intake, but rather that you thought it was possible and you thought you couldn't wash your car because you had an intercooler.

Don't get so bent out of shape about it.

Ok heres a quick run down of how an intercooler works.

As the turbo compresses air it gets hot. Now if it gets too hot bad things start to happen, including blowing up that nice K20A2 you have.

So we need to cool the air down before it goes into the engine. This is where an intercooler comes into play.

Lets you have 2 containers of hot soup. One container is a tall glass, the other is a large pizza pan. Both have the same amount of soup, which one will cool down faster?

The pizza pan will because it has more surface area to allow the soup to cool. Thus more soup can be exposed to the somewhat colder air than opposed to the tall glass.

Now with an intercooler the "path" the air can take is split up into many small rows. Air can flow around each of these rows and can cool the air alot more than just having air blow over a normal intake pipe.

An intercooler is simply a cooling unit for air, The only place air is sucked in is with the air filter.

give the guy a break. he asks a simple question and gets flamed. regardless if he knows every working part on his car, he should still get the same respect as everyone else. And since when do you have to be 1st class mechanic to own a turbo k20? the man just said he had to take a second job to pay for this stuff. everybody has to start somewhere..

XSRCivic,

Your post was usless. You left no information. All you did was come in here and post another reason for someone to write back like I am now and say something. You are just as bad as everyone else.

I was just afraid that water would get inside the intercooler and get sucked into the engine. I was just being safe! But i get flamed for being safe and asking a question. Wow what a shitty site.

Dude, dude. Calm down.

The only reason people are like "wtf" is because of the questions being asked. You know that saying in elementary school, "The only dumb question is one you don't ask." That doesnt apply anymore.

If you have a turbo + swapped civic, its almost a prerequisite to know a little bit about how turbos, intercoolers, etc. work. Personally, I'm wondering how your car didn't explode yet, but thats neither here nor there.
