Your notions contradict one another. You can build a kit for cheap, but is it going to be reliable? Probably not. Is it going to perform as well as better components? Probably not. Will it work just to get boosted? Yes, of course.

Your reliability, consistency, and performance of it is a direct reflection of your $$, homework and efforts. The more you do, the better off you'll be. Like buying a car, do you buy the KIA or the LEXUS? Hmmmmm.

Just check out ebay and the for sale forum. There are alot of various parts for boosting to be found in there. Don't go into it on a budget it will never work out. Just make a parts list of all the components that you are planning(high quality of course) and scout out the lowest price. Your not gonna put together a quality custom kit for 1,000. thats junkyard turbo money. Your prob. looking at about 2500 ballpark. Plus you have to include install (if your not sure how, I say pay a reputable shop with a dyno to do it. it saves you the hassle of and error cause if there is you have them fix it and you don;t have to drive the car untuned.)and tunning.

in reality to do it correct then it should be about 3g's +
i am in the middle of puting a turbo on my s10 righ now. i got a rebuilt turbo and all the piping with a bovand w/o and i/c but with a alky injection kit fmu oil lines and coolant lines for 1200. then my list goes a lil like this.
i/c core custom end tanks all i/c piping
msd dis 2
msd coils and interface modules
cartech fmu
safc
boost controller
new plugs and wires
new injectors
head gasket
egt with probe
boost guage
install my roller rockers
59mm t/b
limited slip differental
cf clutch
b&m short throw
now alot of this is for better performance but alot is for safety
just the safety list is about 2g's + the 1200 im spending on the turbo and misc. stuff
dont be cheap or youll be sorry. make sure you can monitor everything

thats pretty much what i thought. i really didnt wanna spend a ton on it, but i guess it would be worth it rather than getting a bunch of unreliable ****. i really wanted to get dezod's kit, but i cant wait until next spring/summer, so i will probably just go custom. i already have about 2g saved, so another month or 2 and il be ready i guess. any chance of getting a kit early dezod? haha
