problems while boosting
problems while boosting
ive recently installed my pieced together kit. if i run low boost (3-5) it runs great. if i go to about 7 lbs, it does good till about 5000 rpms, then the car chugs a little bit. i dont think its detonation, cause it doesnt sound like it and im pretty sure my motor would be dead by now if it was. does that sound like detonatino to you guys?
chances are that if you're only running 7 psi you are not detonating ... unless you're running 87 octane, then maybe. Use premium octane ... then you shouldn't have that much of a problem ...
I think retarding it will reduce detonation ...
like I said .. get it dyno'ed! ;P

redchirp just blew his motor because he didn;t take the time to get a fuel system and rushed into it. and it seems you put your boost on in a hurry and didn;t cover all the details either. IMO alot of people are getting excited about boosting their cars and just put on the the main components and rush it cause they don;t have the money right then to get everything and say"just run low boost till i get it" or boost their daily drivers and don;t get them tuned because they have to go to work. when i finish my kit i will be running 1 psi from my house after the install straight to SFP to get it tuned. and i know it sucks i have to wait to get enough money to buy every part, and wait to get it tuned before I drive it, but This is one of those things that needs to be done right the first time and thripple checked for every detail.I know alot of people on this site have installed there own boost and it sounds easy like a weekend job but i know Im gonna have to go without my car for about a week and a 1/2 to 2 weeks so i can make it a clean install.Just my .02
Cam timing and ignition timing are two different things guys. Besides cam timing is best left stock with forced induction ("straight up" is the term used buy engine builders) read about forced induction from anywhere you can. Info is key. Know your motor inside and out before you go messing with it. F/I is very unforgiving.

For $350 you can get a fully digital air/fuel ratio meter that's ten times more acurate than the AEM unit and aloows for up to five more inputs (RPM, MAP, MAF,TPS, etc)... Data gathered by the unit can be downloaded to a computer to be viewed, analyzed, and processed.
This thing allows you to tune your car on the fly without having to take it to a dyno.
"yeah ...well im not buying a standalone just for timing"
e-manage has so many options other than fuel and timing. Its not much more than a VAFC or SAFC. Its not a standalone. with the harnesses and support tool you can prolly get it all for less than 450 if you shop. Plus you'll get more reliable horsepower, whats not to like. Get it for your b-day or x-mas or something lol. I promise you will love it.

BTW when I turned my ignition timing too far up (n/a) with the emanage it did the same thing you are describing. It stumbled and skipped on the top end. Our knock sensors freak out everything when you detonate. That may or may not be it IDK for sure.

I'm glad it's fixed, but changing cam timing only changes the powerband.... It doesn't effect ignition timing... Sounds like it's masking something else....
well.. imma be ordering my turbo setup by the end of this month.. but before i do that imma be doing some pre turbo parts installation.. im installing a safc2, e-manage, TB ported, cam gears, fuel pump, autometer c2 boost guage and a/f meter, greddy boost controller, rsx injectors and those fuel rails i read about in a different thread.. anything else i should be getting before the turbo installation???
