Your turbo status

Alright I am having trouble deciding on whether or not I want to boost my civic. My main concerns are reliability of my daily driven car. I know they say its safe with alcohol injection @ 8psi or less on stock internals. Who better to ask then the boosted members themselves. How long have you been boosting, and what are ALL the problems you have had since you put your turbo kit on. If you have built internals, say so.

I've been boosted for about 5 months. No problems really except for my shitty jbweld job on my oil pan leaking. Gonna take the pan back off and have my friend weld it. Other than that it's been sweet.

I got my alcohol injection on last saturday and ran the other night when it was cooler i drove at 8psi, was really fast. Fast as hell, but i only ran that once cuz i had some problems with the mixture of the h20/alcohol. But now i think its fine...i won't run high boost unless i dyno again or im at a track.

Other than that i've run between 4-6.5psi and have had no problems daily driving. Its been hot here though so when i push it hard i see the engine heat up a little bit and i run the car easy for awhile. One problem, traction, need new tires soon hehe

MadWheel will become famous soon enoughMadWheel will become famous soon enough
been boosting since october... if it could go wrong, it went wrong with me...

1. blown clutch
2. defective fuel system
3. defective turbo/wastegate
4. oil pan leak
5. charge pipes used to blow off (hair spray helped)
6. bad spark plugs
7. bad alcy switch, almost blew engine
8. blew head gasket at 6psi with 93 octane fuel
9. bad thermosat
10. bad o2 sensor
11. bad map sensor isolator (cheap SF thing stopped workin...)

I know I've had a lot of problems but the car was taken care of. I daily drive my car and race it everyother weekend. I still love the car and knock on wood, haven't had problems for about a month now. At 9psi, I can rip out through 3rd gear with parada spec-2 tires on 17" wheels (215/40/17). That alone makes this all worth it.

If I was going to boost, I would have enough for everything about 2 years from now (ill be in college then). My worries are what if something goes wrong and I dont have the money to fix it since im not working since im at college? How do you guys manage your boosted cars during college as far as repairs and problems go?

My TSI Extreme kit is being installed tomorrow. No problems at ALL getting the kit. Got my kit from Dober, took about a week to revieve everything! Go to Dober if you don't want to worry about getting the right kit, and getting it on time!
Thanks again Jeff!

Had boost since Aug last year, problems had:
...fuel pump went less than a month after I got it (SF replaced though)
Yeah actually that is about it on the problems list, I have always ran 8psi with no problems and the car is a daily driver.
Just remember that there is some basic maintenance and checkup stuff to do, ie. check that piping is tight, frequent oil changes, turbo timer is a good investment etc.
IMO it is worth it to buy, you will love the power...

Oh and BTW-
I am in college now and have to drive about 100 round trip to get there each day I have class- I take my Civic at least 1/2 of the time and there have been no issues- remember that being a "poor college student" sucks though and IF anything needs to be fixed you are going to have to figure out how to pay for it, that has been my problem with other issues on my car (head p and p) this year, now I am broke!!!!

turbo cars SHOULD be done earlier than normal. Like 2500 miles or so. Just to be safe.

Recommended for Turbo: oil changes are about every 2000-2300 miles. Also a high viscousity oil (breaks down at a higher temp) is recommended as well. Turbonetics makes an oil.....couple of other co's as well.

I'd wait till you know you have enough funds. i mean you never know what can happen, as you can see by this thread, some people have problems, some don't.

i check my pipes alot, just cuz i am **** like that. I had the charge pipe blow off the TB after 5 min of driving......so i sprayed my coupling up with hairspray and she isn't going anywhere now

I highly suggest getting T-bolt clamps......the pipes will never come apart with those puppies.

Yeah, check them all of the time, it only takes a few seconds plus I notice that when it is warm vs cold (maybe expansion) moves them around a little.
I think it depends on everyone's own situation in getting a turbo- you will not be disappointed by what gains you get, I bought mine and had it in before I went back to school to get my master's so it was on and paid for too. Yeah so periodic checks on everything, oil changes and turbo set up should be OK IMO....

Ask Boostedciviczex and civicskater... both running an Auto and Boostedcivic is also running ZEX Nitrous. LOL as long as you have a tranny cooler and pay attention to your car and noises you hear you will be ok. Oh i will be boosted by the End of June hopefully
