what kinda oil for turbo d17

Hey I'm wondering what kinda oil you guys are using for your d17 turbos. I'm using amsoil 5w-30 and i smell burning oil so i was wondering if it is too thin. On cold days I smell lots of burning oil and people say my exhaust gas is blue!? Please answer..thanks

I am using mobil 1 synthetic 5w30 and its getting past the turbo seals. I am going to switch to 10w30 and see if it helps any.

Ummm yeah. If you're smoke is blue...you're burning oil...chances are....it's most likely NOT the TYPE of oil you're using, but the fact that you're burning oil somewhere. My suggestion is to pop open your hood and try to identify the source of the burning oil. Could be gaskets, could be your turbo. If your bearings are bad and you're burning oil..you're gonna blow up soon.

I really hope you've been checking your oil level too. If you haven't please do. If you're burning oil...chances are your oil supply is low by now and you might wanna replace it till you can figure out whats wrong. Keep checking it otherwise...kaboom.

If you cant figure out what the problem is.....take ur car to a mechanic/shop quick.

All boosted civics will burn a little oil. I use 10-30 valvoline synpower. A few people have said that regular oil might work better.

It's not the "type" oil that's the problem here guys, so your tellin him what "kind" you use isn't helpin' much. Everyone w/turbo should be FINE w/10w30 or 5w30.

He's obviously got a more serious problem when he's being told that there's blue smoke coming from the car. And if it doesn't get fixed...kaboom.

Just spoke to MikeDaRippa too.....if your car isn't tuned...that may also be ur problem.

My car always make a little puff of blue smoke when I floor it but all the seals are fine. Our oil controll rings werent ment for boost so like I said burning a little bit of oil is normal, but if its happening all the time then you have a problem.

i don't get blue smoke all the time. It's usually only when its kinda cold. Someone was telling me that my 5w-30 might be to thin and it might be getting thru the pistons and burning....weird. And yes my car is untuned...maybe thats why =\
