N2O or turbo?
ok so i wanna have some fun with my car, its a 2001 lx automatic. i was wondering, how much hp id gain from running a turbo with 7lbs of boost on it? or would it be just better overall to get a n2o system set for a 65 shot? i plan on getting a torque converter upgrade, and i already have intake, header and exhaust. i plan on keeping this car for about 3-4 years as its going to be my "college car", but i dont want to sink too much money into it since id like to save up money for a new car later on.

u can get a n20 kit for around 500-600 bucks........boost is gonna cost you around $4,000.
IMO..........if i were you, i would get neither since it is ur college car, but if u do, then go with n2o.

NOS and turbo are both forced induction, they both "force" more air into your intake manifold, increasing power. .

secondly, n2o doesn't force air into ur IM, it is a gas that combust when mixed with gasoline.

yes, obviously it is nitrous oxide, if you want to use the whole technical term. I meant that more oxygen is available in the combustion chamber, which is basically the same principle as any kind of forced induction. Please don't try to be condescending over little mistakes I make when I post. I did make a mistake however when I said that the oxygen is introduced in the IM.

would our engines be able to stand a 75 shot? ive heard of people doing it but how safe is it really? our engines do seem to hold up to boost pretty well, so could i run a 75 shot?

Just got the kit installed late last fall so no 1/4 mile runs yet, and havent had the time or extra cash for a dyno but if my butt was calibrated id guess low 15's high 14's. Only one real race and it wasnt for very far. Was 2003? i think dodge stratus r/t ? i think. Had him by about half a car when i was only on 30 shot. I try not to abuse the N2O

yeah, i really want to boost, but i cant afford boost. so i cant boost. so instead of boost im gonna go with nitrous, maybe ill boost my next car. besides with a 75 shot it should be almost the same as if i were boosting, so i think that the price difference, lenght of time ill hav ethe car, and availability of cheaper alternative will keep me without boost. boost

c2i0v0ic, if you dont mind me asking, how much did it cost u to do that custom turbo setup? i dont need any internals since id run a max of 8lbs of boost, so just the turbo, intercooler, fuel return, piping, etc?
if you have the money ( which you say you dont) then go with a turbo, but since you dont, if you want that extra kick bad enough then go with the N2O. im hoping for your sake that it agrees with your engine. im not saying that n2o will mess up your engine i have just heard plenty of stories about blowing engines and such so i am just hoping that it doesnt happen to you or anyone else on this site. good luck with your new found power!
