custom turbo

hey guys i just went down to my local high performance auto shop and i was asking them about doing a turbo setup on my 02 auto civic EX, well they told me they can do it and it isnt the only one they are doing for a 7thgen. they told me for a complete setup (garrett t3/t4 turbo, FMIC, fuel system etc.) they will charge approx. 2500 installed!! well i told some ppl and they r skeptical, and ill admit i am too, but im still gona go for it. i have a meeting with them this friday to iron out more details. i will update u guys whenever i get a chance.

They are probably low balling you to get you in the door. Once they have your care and kit partialy installed, they will cry unexpected difficulties and charge you another $1000 to finish. Just for the part alone you are looking at that much. I doubt they can get it all that cheap and install.

Well I take that back. You could get a good bildge pump (E-turbo) for that price.

No but really I have been shopping around for almost a year. I would go with what has worked with other people, so you can look at their kits and talk with them to. Not just word of mouth. If the guy has done 7th gen installs ask for phone numbers to go check them out.

I'm gonna agree with this^^^. The odd thing is that my shop gave me a high *** price for an estimate, and it ended up being 30% of the estimate. So you never know what shops do.

StreetLevelPerformance is on a distinguished road
There are alot of variables here and no one can give you an honest opinion because they don't know what the shop is capable of. If they are making their own intercooler piping and buying a cheap manifold like HKS I don't see why it would cost any more then $2500. I would say that if they warranty their work then go for it.

Well, talk to them, let us know what that $2500.00 includes.

Just take a few things into consideration though

Garret t3/t4 (brand new) is AT LEAST $300-500
A decent size intercooler, brand new $400
Piping (mandrel bent) At least $300-$400
Fuel system?? That all depends, but if it's an FMU it should be AT LEAST $250-$500
Alcohol injection?? Not sure bout the avg. price for this but it aint cheap.
THen you got oil lines and fittings which could cost you....say....$50-$100
Then you got a BOV....which a cheap DSM one will be like $35.00 but chances are they're not gettin you one of these. So you're lookin at another $100-$200
A manifold will be no cheaper than $300.00 and that's if you get the prefab HKS one or a log manifold (that could be as low as $150.00). Custom Tubular Manifolds are no less than $400.00 though
Does it include a boost controller? And if so..is it manual?? If it's manual then you might as well not count that cost. They're cheap as hell. But a profec B for instance...no less than $150-$200
Turbo timer same ****.
What about the couplings?
In parts alone you're lookin at quite a bit, especially if they're (and I assume they should be) Brand New parts.
Then there's labor (welding, wiring, install).

Let us know what the specs are on this kit...who knows, maybe your local shop can start turning out some prefab kits as well!!
