K-series swap ECU question.

Ok, I know that when you swap in the K20A2 you can run the motor on the D17 ECU untill you get to Honda to get the K20A2 ECU Flashed, but what about the K20A3 or K24 motor? What I mean is, the reason you flash the K20A2 is because of the higher redline and the different Vtec engagements on the true Vtec with the DOHC. But the K20A3 and K24 only have Vtec on the intake cam just like the D17, but of course is DOHC. Anyone know what the Vtec engagements are on the K20A3 and K24? Are they the same as the D17? If so, I don't see why you could not use the D17 ECU with the K20A3 or K24 instead of changing to the K20A3 ECU. All three motors has a 6800 RPM redline. Thoughts? I was just wondering.

you have to remember that the fuel maps are way different on the k-series motors, and that the D17 ECU is made to run a SOHC motor, not dual. When i was running my car on the Civic ECU it ran really rich, i couldn't even drive the damn thing, i towed it to Acura. Any k series swap your gonna have to swap ECU's too.

I was just wondering. I thought that the D17 ran the motor fine, just had different Vtec engagement. I guess I was wrong. oh well.

the RSX ECU should of come with your motor. If it didnt, then that was a bad deal. Like Hawk said, teh fuel maps are way different, and the car will run really rich. I had all kinds of back fire when i drove on my civic ECU. It was kind of funny for a while, then got really annoying.
Also, a nice little trick for the ECU placement is, open up the RSX ECU and just unscrew the guts of it. Its one panel, dont worry. Then do the same with your civic ECU, and place the guts from the RSX ECU into the civic ECU case. this way it bolts up nicely to your car.
Thats what i did anyway.

Taking it to either Acura, or Honda will work. If you take it to Honda, they will need to contact Acura to get the breaker code for the ECU. Which can only be obtaned with the VIN off of the motor...so make sure you dont have a stolen motor where the VIN is scratched off.

if you can beleave it, you are actually supposed to cut the plastic peice that covers the metal brace behind the glove box to get it out. It's really funny if you look in the manual how easy they make it seem and how hard it actually is to do.

They did an after hours thing for me, and i got it done for free. Weird huh? I had lkie $200 in my pocket ready to go too.
Atl01: the VIN i believe is located on the back of the motor. Once you get a motor just look around for it, you will see it.

Ok what if you get the K24 motor, K20A3 tranny and ECU. How will Honda Flash your ECU then? It wouldn't be the same ECU from the motor, but can they flash it?

Guys, you need the VIN from the car you got the ECU from. It is needed to get the daily security code for the ECU from Honda. If the dealership doesn't have this, they cannot flash the ECU.

Hondata for what? The D17 ECU? They don't make one for the D17 ECU. And If your talking about adding Hondata to the K20A3 ECU, that will not be the same as the K20A2 ECU meaning the true Vtec. Plus Hondata doesn't make a FI application yet and it would be pointless for me to get it. Cause I'm swapping and boosting.
