Only one with an LSD? - Help?
I bought the ACT Stage 2 clutch with Extreme disc instead of street disc. I also bought the ACT 8.2lb prolite flywheel. I ALSO bought the Phantom Grip LSD. LSD "sim" (more of a differential coupler after a certain difference in front tire rotational speed)... the lsd came to 324 shipped via 2nd day air through JCWhitney.com. I emailed Phantom Grip before I bought. They said the one for the D16 works on our car. Everything is getting installed next week. Now I don't have a one tire frier!!! Hehe, anyone else on this site bought this yet? How do you like it?

whhaaa lol.... I will DEF post an insane video of both tires spinning once the winter is up...
I got the Greddy Emanage and will have the Profec-e01 within 2 weeks... after dynoing at 9psi with alcy and that setup, i should have about 275whp.... I'll decide then if it's worth porting the turbo or replacing it.. just you wait guys!!! lol

I have LSD, but mines off the Type-S. It's definetly a lot better then having a lefty or righty. I have a video of a burnout I did, approx 112ft with both tires lighting up! I'll post it when I get back from my deployment.
Tell me what you don't like about yourself....

You can get the type-r lsd and put it in the type-s. It doesnt come with the car. I would like to see that vid madwheel. Would a vic with i/h/e benifit from a lsd or would it be better to have more mods? Not planning to burn-out all the time, just use both wheels on launching.
Fly- I think you are correct. I think it is the passenger side, because it is farther from the driver. Its something like that.

Yes JUST the LSD for 324. And yep, Phantom Grip told me it would work fine. Anyone can benefit from an LSD. Better acceleration while turning (no more spinning inside tire)... and better corner exit speed (don't know if anyone else plans to full course race). It will also help drag racing acceleration. Mainly because of what fly said. BOTH will spin at almost the same rate. keep in mind this isn't a posse (sp?) it's a limited slip, which means there's some give but after a certain extent it will lock and get ya going.

PROPS for being first... but i want quaife or kaaz... phantom grip gets rebuilt too often... but i DEFINETELY wanna know if install is successfull.... my 9psi, ported head (VERY SOON), and other mods with a LSD would give me mid 12s i figure..... and lsd now would have me around a 13.2 or so with current mods...

Heh, it may be cheap - but wait until you find out how much it is for a shop to install....tack on another $800-1000....that's just for labor. They essentially have to REBUILD the entire tranny (take the whole thing apart, take out the old differential, put the whole thing back together).....Its not a walk in the park.
I was looking at the quaife one, but the overall price right now (including installation) is just way too much for me.

1. THEY are pieces of **** because they are a locking device and not a limited slip differential, there is a difference, the difference is that a locking device is only good for going straight whereas a LSD is good for turning, stopping, accelerating, etc
2. IT IS NOT AN LSD, here is a quote taken DIRECTLY from the phantom grip website
"The Phantom Grip LSD, otherwise knows as Limited Slip Differential, conversion kit, installs into your non-lsd differential converting it into a proven and competitive limited slip differential that enhances your traction needs. It serves two distinctive functions for the daily driver, street/strip warrior, or full race vehicle. In cornering and braking, it functions as a disc-type limited slip. In hard acceleration, the Phantom Grip works as a locker causing both wheels to receive equal power instead of just one wheel spin."
the part about the disc type LSD is a load of ****, go here
http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm
to learn why its not a real LSD, there are 3 basic types of LSD's
Clutch-Type Limited Slip
Viscous Coupling
Torsen
Locking devices float around a torsen style but are not exactly that and are thusforth NOT a LSD unit.
3.Now I know the phantom grip issue has been braught up but I have a buddy that installed onto his honda... Busted his tranny all up. Seems the phantom grip doesn't actually replace your drive system it just binds it together and the stock gears can't take the pressure added by doing this.
4. Phantom grip is a joke, it is a diff locker. It does not hold up and does not work when pushed hard
5.Phantom Grip sucks donkey ********* - period.
It's not even a real LSD. It's two metal plates that are spring-loaded that push against the spider gears in your stock diff. Over time (not too long either) the pressure against those spider gears breaks them, leaving your diff and possibly your entire tranny trashed.
I had a friend go through two trannies because of that Phantom **** units. First time he broke the diff, he called them and they said it must have been his tranny and that "we have units in cars that have been in for years" yet I've seen numerous stories of how the Phantom Slip has killed trannies.
Each time his diff blew due to the Phantom Slip, the metal pieces ripped through his tranny (because the magnet that is supposed to catch them had gotten full) and ruined pretty much everything, including the case because a piece got lodged between the ring gear and the case.
Aside from the fact that they can break your diff, they don't even work worth a ****. They're okay as a sort of "diff locker" when going straight, but they don't do **** when turning like areal LSD.
I'd love it if the thing actually worked, because I always like to see products that work that cost 1/2 or 1/3 of the original's price (like Rota wheels) that perform similiarly.
These quotes are from different forums, and trust me, there is PLENTY more where that came from.
threatcon13 is right, but a phantom grip will help you alot at the drag strip. It is almost the exact same thing as the lock right differential lockers I used to have in my jeep. Also, you'll get used to hearing loud clicking sounds everytime you turn, but either way, if it suits your needs then
