SF turbo install...Problems with idling - Please Help
Installed everything on the turbo. When i first start the car, it idles around 1500 to 1800. then when i rev it drops back down to 2500 and stays there. it continues to idle at 2500. does anyone know why or how to fix this??? its the last problem i need to fix!

its not the turbo. this is a known problem with our civics. go to the issues section. mine did it for like 3 weeks and corrected itself somehow and stopped doing it.

could be a air bubble or something in the vaccum, otherwise, mine does the same thing when its cold, but it stops after its warm, does urs ever stop, if ur never going below 1800, ur throttle cable could be a lil too tight
Thanks for the replies. The throttle cable seems to be fine in fact there is alot of slack in it. That is one of the first things I checked. Also, it idles at 2000 rpm all the time and never goes down after warming up. Even when i rev it to 4000 rpm it comes back down to 2000 rpm and stays there.
I will check the vacuum lines one more time. Could the map sensor have anything to do with this?

Look for the post from someone (forgot who) awhile ago on correctly resetting idle. I had been just unplugging and plugging in but there is more to it - giving the car gas for a while @ a certain rpm and what not.
Yeah I just looked in my files again and could not find it- can't hurt to try- I had an idle prob @ first but it was the opposite- too low @ around 500rpm and then would stall- fixed it.
Never had throttle cable trouble but check it out too- us past installers are a wealth of info imo....

Cprob Map sensor. That's what my prob was. Make sure it's sealed REALLY well. I have the SF kit too. You need to jam the map sensor down for it to work right. I supposed resetting your ECU won't hurt, but, when you reset it it will naturally idle higher than normal becuase it has to relearn fuel maps.
To reset, in case you're not sure, leave a door open to speed up the process. Use a 10mm and loosen the negative terminal. Pull the terminal off and wait at least 10 sec AFTER the interior lights die out. GL, it fixed my problem.

Ok I will reinstall the map sensor isolation valve and reset the ecu tonight. Did you have a high idle when you first started it up? I drove it a bit and it came down to like 1800 but thats still too high.

You should usually have higher idle in most cars when you first start it up. Then after it is warmed up it will "kick down" to where your normal idle is- do you have auto or man? There is a diff b/w the idle of auto and man- I owned both, my auto idled higher (over 1000) and now my man idles @ about 750 when warm...
I have manual tranny. my car used to idle around 1k but now its at 2k after installing the turbo believe me it is not normal.
edit: it never "kicks down" it stays at 2k all the time

I am not sure then-
sounds like a too much fuel issue or something, maybe throttle cable like they said-
Not sure but once everything is fixed you will be happy w/ the turbo I am!
Keep us updated on what you find out

hey man i gotta get this thing running right first.
alright so i finally get the thing to idle around 1000 rpms and then when i rev it it shoots up to 2000 rpms and then the idle bounces around in a looping manner. i can mess with the map sensor and get different results. the vacuum lines arent leaking i clamped them down tightly. anyone have any clue what i should do?? im very close to buying a missing link from synapse engineering.

Keep messing with the MAP sensor. It took me 2 days to get it perfect. I made my own lil rubber seal that worked better than what SF sent me.

if they are using the same setup they have been i cut a piece of that hose they sent and tapered it down with my knife so it would fight TIGHTLY in the hole for the stock map sensor
worked ok for awhile...
later on i got some strange idling problems...like sometimes it acted like it wanted to stall...i ended up getting the synapse engineering map sensor bypass valve (made for d17's and k20's, same part) and i havnt had a problem since...
