balancing at Discount Tire Co.

Hey guys. I've been trying to find some others' input on how well Discount Tire can balance wheels and tires. I've gone through them some mainly because of their low prices. I just recently got a set of Eagle F1s and went to get them rotated/balanced after about 6k miles. I went back the next day after the 1st balancing because my arm nearly went numb from the vibration on the freeway. They rebalanced the fronts but there's still a shake to the wheel on the freeway. Alignment was good and the tires are almost brand new. So i've come to the conclusion that they just can't do their job (I guess this is why you get free mount/balance/rotation when you buy tires from them). Is there any place that you guys know of that does a good job on aftermarket wheels and low profile tires? I live in FW and go to school in Arlington so anywhere around there's cool.

Yeah it sounds like that Discount Tire doesn't know what they are doing... carzy. I have no problems with the Discount Tire on Camp Bowie by Ridgemar Mall (Ask for Dave if you go). I have bought two sets of rims and been going there for the last 6 years.

I hate to ask this question even tho you stated it already... Are you sure your alignment is good? Did you get an alignment almost right after you put on the new tire/rims?

Well lewisville is a ways for me... considering there are tons of shops around here. Finding the right one is the problem. After the first time I got them rotated I went like a quarter mile down the street to the guys who did my alignment last time. They pulled it in and the print out was all green (the back was worse than the front, but still in green) However, i think it was measuring toe only, atleast thats all I saw on the sheet, no camber specs. It is when I left there and got on the freeway that i felt the wobble/vibration. My car has been pullin to the right some though... camber maybe?

I actually bought my wheels and first set of tires there and had the same problem. Then one of my buddies said that the one on Bryant Irving dealt with alot of nicer stuff because of the location over there in City View. They have a higher end balancing system that I think is like 5 or 10 a wheel, I just wasn't sure if that was a hoax or not even though its only 20 -40 bucks.

From what I hear, the Discount Tire place off of Green Oaks..close to Elzie Odom Rec., does a good job. You might want to check them out.

many places do not know how to balance tires. sam's club and discount tire are some of them. find a good specialty shop that only does tires/alignment work.

when you go in tell them you have had problems getting them balanced before and they will put the best people that they have on it.

I was thinking about one of the Goodyear shops.. one on Bryant Irving in FW I think. I don't know if they'll do any better though. It sure is annoying when our cars don't ride nice. This summer I put new Tokicos on and got some nicer tires. I think for about 2months after that my car rode better than it has in a long time. Then everything starts getting broken in and geometry starts changing a little bit. Eh.. oh well. Also what about weights falling off? I hear about this happening frequently and I can see a lot of remaining glue from old weights on my wheels. Whether this is from them being taken off and moved when rebalancing or just falling off I don't know. Is there anything that can be done for that? I might be getting off topic now since this is like the Texas forum.. should move to wheels and tires I guess although it's probably answered already haha

I just bought a set of BFG G-force sport's at discount tire here in Austin. After I got the tires on, a few days later I cleaned my rims and realized that I had a bunch of scratches on my rims. I think that they were in too much of a hurry to get my tires mounted because of the long line. I dont think ill be taking my car back to get em rotated.

Yea I've heard a similar story. I haven't seen anything on the outsides of my wheels execpt one scuff on the lip that's probably from an obstruction of some sort that I hit.. haha. I had a friend who had a Navigator (ya he's loaded) whose very expensive rims were damaged there when he went for a quick flat fix. They ordered him a new one and kept the old one though. It was damaged pretty bad though. I always stand in the bay and watch them so they are conscious to be more careful. Which by the way guys... I went to the Discount Tire on Collins and Randol Mills in Arlington and they did a great job. The guys there were really cool and got me fixed up. He even filled my tires up to what I requested...WOW!!
