Dyno in Austin

Hey, anybody know if there any place in Austin to do a dyno run and tune? Also any good places to get a crower cam installed? I'm thinking I'd like to do a crower cam stage 1, tune with that and my i/h/c/e bolt-ons, then call it quits for engine performance mods till I get another (faster) car someday. Thanks y'all

to actual get any power gains from that setup, especially with adding on a performance cam, you need to do some head work. You need to upgrade the valve train and possibly get the head worked.

If you were willing to make a short drive, I'd say go to autologic in Houston. Jason really knows his stuff and is really reasonable.

Hey thanks I'm gunna give a couple of those places a call. Streetglower, you say I should do headwork for better gains... you mean like port and polish? (I know nothin). Do you think the cost/benefits would be worth it? Not like the bolt-ons I have are really worth it in the first place, but humor me. I was thinkin with the cam I could get a cheap (?) 5 extra hp then accept my car for what it is, but what gains could I expect from cam/valves/springs and headwork? (on an ex) Thanks!

You do understand that you need a system to tune, right? You can't just put your car on a dyno and instantly gain power, you have to have some type of tool to adjust your a/f and timing. Something like an emanage or vafc.

Yeah, I know that, I assumed a shop with a dyno would also have a laptop and software to tune, or do I need to purchase that stuff myself? Maybe I can call the shops and just find out what they have and what I need. I'm just looking to get a little more power reliably out of my little D17. I really dont have the means for a swap right now and I this is my daily driver so I wouldnt want to deal with all the issues related to forced induction. Thats why I was wondering if headwork in addition to a stage 1 cam and tuning would be worth it for a little extra zip on the highways and onramps.

Not really. But depending on what fuel management you're running, you may need software. What do you have? Vafc?

Sorry I dont know much. I thought you can just tune our existing ECU. I guess I need Vafc or something already hooked up. Maybe I dont need to tune. I think Im just gunna price up a cam install then do a dyno run out of curiosity. Valves, springs and headwork sounds like it could get pricey but maybe I'll get a quote for that too. I could be rockin over 100whp with my D17 who knows, lol.
