DIY: No More Trunk Rattle!

DIY: No More Trunk Rattle!
1. On the inside part of the trunk lid, there are rubber stoppers on each side. Losen those a little by turning "counter-clock wise" (till you can see 1 to 2 rings). Then test to see if the trunk will close properly after.
2. Move the trunk lock latch down further by removing the plastic cover around the latch by pulling it out(might take a little more muscle compared to other panels). Using a 10mm socket wrench, losen the 2 bolts a little, then move the latch down all the way (line it up with the last tick as shown it the pic) and tighten the bolts. Test to see if trunk will close before putting the plastic cover back on.
Now your trunk lid is super air tight.
By the way, I installed to rolls of "Dynomat Extreme" on the trunk lid, so that probably helps a little. Also, I am running 2 12" Alpine Type-R's subs, and each sub has a V12 MRV-T707 amp powering it.

P.S ---> This is how I stopped my rear deck from rattling. (Shoved to "2 thick old socks in between the "third brake light" and "rear deck".

Where did you guys mount the subs? I'm looking for a place where they won't take up too much room. I looked at Allman's idea, but he says it won't work with 12ers. He said 10s are pushing it. I appreciate your help.

Rep Power: 0 i love the idea that derek did, moving the spare tire to under the car and putting the subs flush in the false floor of your trunk. i hope to do that someday, when i have the time and money.

I don't have any pics. If you plan on doing the DIY, I suggest doing the DIY first before going out and buying "Dynomat Extreme" to see if the rattling stops. To install dynomat extreme, just add 1 big piece to the underside of the top of the trunk lid and another piece to the part behind the license plate.

Ok, that sounds great and all, but my 2002 LX coupe doesn't seem to want to slide up or down, it just has one hole where it is supposed to bolt on, not a sliding track like I have seen on older cars.

Strange? I only moved my latch about 1/3" down, and this was as far it would go. Also, my car is an EX, but the trunks should be the same for all coupe models. Go take another look a you trunk latch, and if that dosen't work out, try playing around with "Step 1" of the DIY. This gets rid of a fair bit of rattle.

Rep Power: 0 Thanks, I'll try it when my car gets back from the shop. Hope it works because that rattling sounds so cheap, totally messes up the sweet bass from the outside. sounds like my speakers are blown, or my car is a rattly old POS.

The DIY is refering to the bottom latch above the rear bumper - not on the trunk lid it self.
You need a little muscle to take the black plastic covering off (approx 2 feet long).
I pryed my fingers under the top right corner and just pulled slowly but firmly and it came off.
Unscrew the two 10mm screws and move the latch down (It will be able slide about 1/2" up or down)
I found that if I had it all the way down my trunk couldn't close.
I set it at about 4mm before maximum slide down.
Getting my subs next week so let's see if it works.

If you look real close at the latch and the body you will see alignment marks (3 of them) mine was on the top one when i started i could push the trunk and it had some play, i moved it to the bottom mark and the latch didnt catch. I ended up moving it to the middle mark and it closed tightly and there was no more play.

Rep Power: 0 I'm going to ty that too. my trunk rattles like an s.o.b. I have dynamat all over the ish, but when the bass goes up the rattles get annoying if I'm standing outside of the car

Rep Power: 0 I did what you suggested. All I had to do was loosen those rubber things about two or three rings and no more trunk rattle. It all depends on where people are having problems. For me It was with the trunk rattling against the bumper. I already have a ish load of dynamat xtream and original. For the people that don't they might want to go ahead and get some. The choices are between dynamat raamat and b-quite. IT's all the same ish so it doesn't matter

Rep Power: 0 That stops the trunk from rattling. Now for the rear deck [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/IMG].. Remove the rear deck. Add 1 sheet of 1/4" FOam padding. Cut holes as needed for the clips. put rear deck back on.....Done. If anyone ever has any questions on deadenign thier car..PM Me... I've spent the last 4 months making my car as dead as can be.
