Rep Power: 0 VTEC Indicator Light - need help!!!
Ok, I am a moron, I said it, had to so I dont get (flammed) to awefully bad by anyone else. I bought a Light to hook up into my gauge cluster and wire to the ECU so I can see when my VTEC kicked in. I have a 01 Civic EX 5-Speed just in case anyone needed this info. I need to know which wire I need to hook my positive into? I have no clue, and, get this, where the hell is the ECU, I am blind I swear. I think it is under the hood, obviously, but on the passenger side on the fire wall, let me know if that is it, I dont know !!! If anyone has any information on this, I would appreciate it. Thanks, I am going back to the to see if I can remember why I did this...

Rep Power: 0 HAHAHA!!!! I got bored today and decided to try it. I have to say that it was very simple and didn't take that long at all to complete. I also was suprised at when the vtec engaged on a medium to hard throttle. I suggest anyone try this because you'll be suprised as well.

Rep Power: 0 It shouldn't....The wire from the LED that you hook up to the ECU is only transmitting the signal when the vtec engagement turns on. I could be wrong, but I don't see how it could mess anything up.

Rep Power: 0 It all depends on how you "get up on the throttle". If I stomp on the gas, it kicks in at around 2500. If you just drive normal, it's around 3200. Atleast it is for me anyways. It also stays on but if you let off vtec disengages when it hits 3500 or below until you push in the gas. It's a pretty neat mod...I thought it would be stupid at first, but I've kinda learned some things about our vtec.

Rep Power: 400 So are you telling us that this is the parts list?
(Copied from the other site)
Package of 330 OHM resistors Part# 271-1113
5mm LED of your choice, I choose a Blue on Part# 276-311
Roll of 18-gauge wire, I got a three color package of solid core but stranded would be better (solid core part# 278-1223 )
Snap-in LED mount Part# 276-079
Tap-in clips Part# 64-3052
If all I gotta do is hook up one wire to the ECU lead and ground it, I'm doing it this weekend.

Rep Power: 0 That's all you need!!! It was soooo simple. The only thing I don't really like is how bright the LED is when mine engages. I put the LED in the spot beside the outlet. It's the piece that you can pop out. It lights up the whole inside of my car... I think I'm gonna rig a switch to turn it on and off

Yup!!! It works....The Vtec kicks in at around 2300 on a hard throttle. It will kick in at around 3000 when just driving under normal conditions. Try it out.

Rep Power: 400 Bingo... it works. I used a 470 OHM resistor instead of the 330... that should make it a little dimmer. It's still bright enough to see in daylight. Mine's just rigged up on a bread board right now because I don't know where I'm going to mount it, but I'll probably put it in perf board and mount it this weekend.
I thought I took a pic of it, but the camera apparently didn't go off, so it's the top center plug on the white connector plug in the middle of the ecu. Green with a yellow stripe. I'll post a bunch of pics when I finalize it this weekend.

Rep Power: 0 I decided to try a 670 ohm resistor because the LED is way too bright for me at night when using the 330 ohm resistor. I have to say that it puts out light perfectly. I suggest using a higher ohm resistor when doing this mod. Hope this helps.
