Adding headroom

For tall people/those with unusually good posture...

...Or those who drive ex coupes.

...or people who wear helmets come to think of it.

I'm just over 6'1" and comfortably seated (and hight adjuster floored) in my ex coupe my skull would be about 0.5 inches from the roof, and my hair touching it.

So after considering new seats and/or a custom bracket I realized I could probably pull some foam out of the seat cushen to let me sit lower.

In the end it worked! Removed half an inch of foam and gained about 3/4" of extra headspace.

I did this by basically cutting a grid, cuts being 1/2 inch deep, then pulling out the squares of foam. Also stiched a piece of cloth on to the springs on the seat frame so they wouldn't cut into the foam (oem there is a cloth kind of stuff formed on the bottom of the foam so it doesn't tear, but that was cut off)
I would not recommend removing more than 1/2 inch because there are little bar things imbedded in the foam that the cushen cover are latched on to for a tight fit. You might be able to get away with 3/4" but thats like half of the cushen thickness.

I am very happy with the result it still feels very comfortable on long drives, not lumpy or hard anywhere. The seat cups my bum more now because I'm sitting deeper in it but I like it just fine.

Its really very simple to do, getting the cushen off is finniky and there are some sharp bits on the frame but its all lodgical and easy to figure out as you go along.

btw if you screw up the seat cushens are about $60 from the dealer (I checked just in case I did screw up)

Oh and it looks 100% stock, top of the seat didn't wrinkle or compress funny or anything.

Honnestly it feels great after an hour or more! I couldn't be happier with it.

The springs on the seat frame compress/streatch quite a bit makeing it feel like there is a lot more foam then there really is.

Obviously some people won't find it comfortable. (heck, lots of people seem to hate the stock seats I love them)

I'm 6'2" and have never had any issues with head rooms. You do realize there is a **** on the side of the chair to rise AND lower the seat right?

id vote for cutting foam, def easier than cutting and rewelding or redrilling your brackets
