do what maxsin said..heh, i woulda said the same thing, but he already said it. also, personally, i wouldnt buy a brand name computer, cuz u can build one much better and save a lil money. btw..my comp is riced out too. haha
But since the dude built the computer himself(the guy with the DVD burners) all he has to do is buy a new mobo and processor and he is back up to speed, maybe another stick of faster ram.
Mobo 150-180 max
Processor 250 max for the best Barton out(which is a 3.2ghz... he could settle for a $100 proc at P4 at 2.0-2.4
Ram 512 stick PC3200 150 max
Then he would be back on top with all those extras listed from your post

#1Start with a Computer Case, Fry's and PCClub are the best places to buy a case. Make sure you get a powersupply with the case, It should be included, but make sure it is.
#2 Next you need to figure out what processer you want to run. AMD or INTEL. I would recommend a Intel Processor.
#3 So you figured out what processor. (hint) Get a Intel 3.0ghz with HT(hyper threading) technology. YOU WANT A BOXED PROCESSOR! Not TRAY, Not BAREBONE. BOXED, IMPORTANT!
#4 You need a motherboard. (hint) Get a Gigabyte motherboard that supports the 3.0Ghz Processor.
#5 You want RAM now. When you get the motherboard, either at Fry's or PCclub, ask the sales person what type of RAM the Motherboard will support. You want at least 512MB, Kingston is a good brand.
