I paid my year membership. I would hate to see this site go and I know it costs a lot of money to keep a site this big and robust up, so I have no problem contributing money to the cause

I think you get the little trophy when you are a premium member.

Last time i checked it was like:
$30 - 1 year
$50 - 2 years
$100 - lifetime (????)

I'll ask Derek later and update this.

Yeah well the problem with popup killers is then Derek does get the money that he would of if you had just ignored it. More people who use those the more likely the website goes away or he has to start charging for use of the site which I know he does not really want to do. Uninstall the popup killer and just ignore it. Or better yet, just get the membership

i understand its the persons site, i do webdesign for a living, it isn't an easy job and much props go out for the time and work that goes into this site, but just as the fate of csi and other sites, basically the layout money comes from sponsors and advertisers, if you start charging for a message board more and more users might just disappear... or some might get annoyed by certain things, pop ups is one of them, or they will just move on to another site or message board... just like napster... did you guys start buying cds when it was non existent? or did you find other ways to do it... win mx, ftp, etc... anyways i don't mean to sound like a ****, but unless its required to pay to be part of the site, then the pup killer will be in full effect, especially when im working multiple apps and surfing the boards... if im looked down because of this, thats fine, all has their opinions... but until the day its pay only, then ill do what i need to do...

So your saying that unless I give everything here for free and pay out of my pocket, the site will die? Hmmm... nice thinking and atittude.

im just saying its a gamble for the type of site you are looking to achieve, if you want to be a premium site like overboost to offer pics and stuff, thats one thing... like you want this to become an all civic board or world as has heard... if i were you i would keep it strict 7th gen if you are trying to charge or basically annoy people to the point to charge, because alot of the guys have really good hearts, you are lucky for having the many loyal members you do that want to help you out, normally you don't find that out on the internet. Im just saying, unless you have some hot feature or some hot members only ****, then charging for ubb is a waste, a ubb is compromised of the more members, or the more experienced members who are taking their time to make the board with their info... most of these guys surf many boards, and are either here on content with helping out or here because they can get their fix with another board and can throw some knowledge in return... most of these people will not pay the money, what happens when its either just newbie members? i can see you charge for the tips and diy's and so forth, but most of them are really common that you can find them alot of places on the internet, or even ask the same question at csi or something else. Id hate to see that, i would... slow traffic ubb = death of the forum, honestly you don't see people coming back when topics are dead, or if there aren't topics or if they can't relate to the audience here so they don't make a topic of their own.. the ubb is what brings back people here, yes initially they might find you from your sub pages, but your community and board is what this site is... sad to say this kind of site compared to a store or so forth, takes more money to make (yes it does take time) setting up the cgi and so forth, but thats the gamble you take for a board, you need money and you need the public input.. And for those members that just don't want pop ups, don't care about the picture hosting, or the extra features or space, maybe you should make that an option, then from there i might be cool about supporting the site, if its the ads then its the ads, because if i don't use space, then that equals more space and bandwidth which seems to be the money taker.. anyways, i am in no way a cheap guy, i had to take the hit for the rest of the bill at one of the socal meets because some people stepped out, i don't believe in free rides, but at the same time, i came to 7th gen to give a hand and share some of my knowledge and help, and just keep alittle peace showing that a 6th gen si owner can actually have some decency instead of flaming... Just remember you started the site, you pay out of your pocket because you decided to start the site, thats just like going to a car show and paying your registration fee of 45bux and then charging everyone that comes along wanting to look at your ride (yes i know that wouldn't be allowed, but im giving an example) you already only have a number of people that will look at your ride, how many do you think are going to be left? the same, less, or considerably less? what is your purpose at the show? for exposure, and for everyone and as many people to see your hard work.... well this site is your hard work, if you make it members only yea i know less ads for you, but for those advertisers that do advertise, do they want to advertise to 500 members? or 5k members? And for those that do pay, but then it fails, what will happen if the site did go down? will they get some kind of refund? what happens? is there an assurance claimer of their money? anyways, im not trying to be an *** or an inconsiderate ***... but its like going to new york and having a public central park then all of a sudden next vacation you go there and they are charging you to get in, some people really love it and will pay, and then you get about 75% of the visitors that can move on...

well i think there might be a misunderstanding... i dont think derek plans on making this a paying members only website. all he's doing is giving extra perks to those that do pay. so ya this is the same "free" website it used to be its just if you do pay you get extra features.

some people don't plan things first before they make them reality (server costs, cost to run a site like this, etc.) .. just like you guys flame an ugly car, if i don't like ugly popups (yes i know they have a purpose) im gonna say something myself... but when i can get better info for a better deal and a bigger members database somewhere else for free along with a faster server... i feel that i should put my 2cents about how i feel even though this topic has been dead for awhile... im not here for the content, im not here to pay money, and im certainly not here to keep quiet and jump on the bandwagon like everyone else... If im stubborn then in return, whoever either didn't plan, or just jumped ahead of the gun to commit to something either they couldn't afford or couldn't have enough time to do, then thats stubborn making its members/customers suffer, thats bad business.... so for your info im not stubborn, i just don't feel that what i get for my money is worth it... now like i said if i donated a portion to help out the site thats cool, but 10bux for a year should be plenty... if derek wanted a free site, he should have just joined another board, he committed himself to a site or basically a business.... thats like me opening up a car shop and charging 400bux for an aem intake... why? because i need to pay off my business because now im in debt for starting my business when i couldn't or wasn't financially stable....... whats going to happen? no one will buy, people will talk ****, etc.... im just saying that im annoyed and im not a happy member, thats it... i have the right for speech, im not flaming anyone, i know some is directed towards derek, but he is the one that is behind the site.... unless he is the money, or the popup window then im not angry at him, its hard to run something successful and keep your life going , its costly and there are different ways to tackle things, i just don't agree with this.... i know i can logout and move on.... im not dependent on this board at all.... but im here for the meets more then anything, i try to contribute as much as possible... its a community, ive covered costs for others, just like others have (bbq costs and so forth) all im saying is that im annoyed by popups thats it.... and my item im standing by is that its bad business...... thats it... there are many ways to get around it... just takes some tactics... once again i know im in wrong towards everyone else, but i feel how i feel, ill shut up and sit in my corner with popups popping up... but this is how i feel

Nobody likes paying money for something they want, personally if I could afford it I would have dropped the 100 bucks or so for derek's site ebcause I think that the information and knowledge that I get from here is more vauable then money. Unfortunatly due to circumstances at home and other financial burdons I cant. The popup add was really annoying at first, still is but if I can contribute by having that come up I don't mind it.

lol damnit ricky you LOVE to write dont you. should be an author... would only take you an hour to write a whole book...
i dont see how what derek's doing is wrong tho. all he is doing is trying to keep the site up. yes popups can get annoying and we could all just simply search on yahoo and look for a different site BUT i know i wouldnt leave THIS SITE just cause there's a few popups. and like you suggested, this site offers something that not many other sites dont. and that is the people and the bond we have... derek isnt forcing people to pay. he isnt punishing the people who dont pay. he is simply asking people to and "rewarding" those who do. n ya you say it isnt worth it for the price, i'm not saying i agree/disagree but i just think of it as a donation.
but ya popups are annoying but hey it helps keep the site up and running. i know a few popups here and there isnt going to deter me from coming back to this site. i'm sure most will agree with me on that...
