alright so my friend let me borrow his Valentine 1 detector
i wanted to try it out before i bought one
today it saved my ***, i was going 60 in a 40. the street is always empty and pepole always speed, i would have never expected a cop to be there.
anyways
are radar detectors illegal in california?
also i heard if they catch you using one they mark it down on the ticket. does that do anything?

afaik, radar detectors are legal ... but radar jammers are not.
I don't know anything about them marking it down ...
I have a cheapo $150 one that's a few yrs old and it has saved me a few times

Radar detectors are legal in CA but cops can pull you over and give you a fix-it ticket for obstruction of view if you put it on your dash or windshield, etc.
here, from that site
Autoweek magazine November 2004 reviews of the 1.8 version of the Valentine 1 referred to it as the "Chicken Little" of radar detectors because of all its false alarms.
i really like how the V1 has the bogey counter and arrows
also that it can detect from the sides, front and back.
there are three modes on the V1
the all mode has lots of false alarms and is the most sensitive.
the logic mode and advanced logic mode filters out the false alarms by looking at how the radar signal is being broadcast and such
i had the V1 on logic mode when it detected the cop
it was filtering out all the markets in the area
usually it would be going off in all mode in that area.

well since the freeways are always backed up and traffic seems to rarely go over 40mph, then my answer is no. If your worried about speeding or can't afford to pay for a speeding violation then obviously dont speed, that is all i am tryin to say
