Rep Power: 304 People have been misrepresenting themselves online for as long as online has existed. To some it's just a game, some it's the only way they know how ot be since they hate themselves. The anonimity offers them some solace and a chance to be popular.
Me, I am ALWAYS exactly the same me I am in real life. I ve met enough people here and there and in person to know that its the only way to be.
Back in the day when I worked for AOL remotely (early-mid 90s) it was very common for guys to pretend they were girls and hang out in the lesbian chat rooms trying to get some chicks to talk dirty with them.
I dont see the point of misrepresenting. I mean, if you make friends online and like them enough to go meet them, what do you tell them when you show up. And they are like expecting a 24 year old firefighter who works out daily and has a thick bank account from inheritance... only to discover you are a 40 year old fat guy who works as a greeter at Kmart and barely makes ends meet.
I've fallen victim to this kind of thing, even flew to meet someone who turned out to be a old fat guy in drag.
That was a real bummer.

Damn, hahahaha sorry I had to laugh at the old fat guy part! I used to mess around in the lesbian chat rooms it was fun, but that was a long time ago! Everyone here can vouch that I am on the net the way I am in person!
